Must admit, I'm amazed how most of you have just assumed that Maxi is going to be a better Premiership player that anyone else we have in that position

No but it's a bit of an insult to the regulars. I remember almost wetting myself with excitement when we signed Morientes. He'd scored shitloads everywhere he'd played, was bound to be a hit. Dirk Kuyt was a goal machine. González was the hottest prospect in South America.
We haven't even got Maxi yet, he hasn't played one game in the Premiership but most are certain that it would be better to play him on the right than, say, Yossi there and Riera/Aurelio/Babel on the left.
Even Aquilani, I don't think he's done enough to justify selection yet in all honesty. I'm not slating anyone, it's just opinion after all, just think it's a bit odd.

Lucas at the moment deserves to be there but Aquilani when fit and up to speed has to be played.

If we were to sign some players then I'd shuffle them about.

Thing is, now that 2 of the deadwood are gone, out bench will look alot more promising, take Eem's team for example, the bench to go with that could be: Lucas, Riera, Kuyt, Skrtel, Pacheco, Rodriguez, Cava, Babel etc

If we were to sign some players then I'd shuffle them about. Lucas would be great in between matches, then we would have the likes of Babel to replace N'gog if he's nebbish on the day. The day we can start rotating again I will be a happy guy.

I would start with Riera, Yossi will always cause an effect off the bench he's our trump card for me. But then again he's just as great starting.

Same here! Riera/Benyoun depending on how good oppositions right back is and whether or not we want width from the left!

I really think this squad lacks a genuine goal threat. Other than Torres, Gerrard, Kuyt and Benayoun, who is capable of 10 plus goals per season? We don't even have a Hyypia style centre back to grab 4-5 goals per season and Mascherano doesn't score.

I'd take a chance on Johnson bombing forward in a more advanced role on the right wing, he worries me defensively, but attacking wise has looked quite good.

Essentially the same team, and I'd say that I'd agree with both.

Hard to decide between Riera and Benayoun on the left, can switch them depending on the opposition, rest of the team is sorted.

Providing Maxi signs and lives up to his promise, no reason why not!

Either of the above would be most suitable at the moment.

A couple of new faces would be nice though for strength and depth.

Obviously we all know what the strongest would be if we got Maxi.. Some experimental ones could be

Would be very attacking from a central point if view but with Benny and Stevie able to play from the wide areas they could switch it up loads and even allow Maxi to be a 2nd striker.

A barca style tactic, with the main 3 upfront changing positions as the European champs do with Gerrard and Aqua influencing the game as well as Xavi and Iniesta could with them wanting Masch so much he'd be great in that holding midfield role on his own.

Well done for being the first person in this thread to say something other than Carra+1 for central defence. Don't get me wrong, I love Carra and he's the true beating heart and soul of the club, but unfortunately he's no longer our strongest centre half - got to be Agger and Skrtel first choice.

Erm, yeah he is still much better than Skrtel, so it should be Carra and Agger in the middle until they need a rest or are injured. Also he shouldn't on the right because he can just about hack it, Darby all the way for tonight.

Well, clearly I'm in a minority here but I think he's past his peak as a player. Still better than most but not better than
Agger or Skrtel.

Im liking this formation at the moment on FM its called "2-2-1-2-1-2".

Having Johnson and insua push up to offer width, Maschie would focus more on defense Gerrard would stand back a little bit with Pacheo pushing up into a more 3rd striker position i know his young but hes gonna be big! and if it was me he would be playing now!.

People will disapprove of this of course but i think it would work.
