A bit like that John Bishop bloke with his 'Liverpool' accent then.
Nah he's sound mate, the exaggerated accent is cos his family moved to Runcorn on Sea and I'm not sure if he was born up there or what but it's a sign of an unwillingness to slip into woollyback obscurity and retain his scouseness.
The weird thing is the outlaws who live up there - three of my wifes' brothers who married wools have got grandkids who speak with different accents than each other, some talk scouse and some a wool/scouse combination but the brothers all retain the undiluted scouse speak.
Her other brother who has lived in Mass. in the US for roughly the same time has a US/scouse accent but refuses to lose his origins even tho subconsciously the American speak is taking over cos he is surrounded 99.5% of the time by it. Whereas in Runcorn there is a core of die hard cling to your roots people like John Bishop who refuse to lose their identity.
