According to a report in Voetbal International, Eredivisie joint leaders Twente have completed the transfer of Bulgarian goalkeeper Nikolay Mihaylov from Liverpool on a free transfer.

The young shot stopper is currently owned by the Premier League outfit, but Mihaylov never made in into the first team at Liverpool. He had already been farmed out on loan to Twente for the past three seasons.

Mihaylov's Liverpool contract was due to expire at the end of the season and the glovesman has now made his stay in Enschede a permanent one by signing a contract until the summer of 2012.

Current first choice goalie Sander Boschker is widely expected to retire in the near future and Twente coach Steve McClaren sees Mihaylov as the perfect long-term replacement for Boschker. The shot stopper has made seven Eredivisie appearances for Twente so far.

FC Twente heeft Nikolay Mihaylov definitief vastgelegd. De Bulgaarse goalie is bezig aan zijn derde seizoen bij De Tukkers, maar deed dat tot dusver als huurling van Liverpool.

Nu heeft de 21-jarige keeper zijn krabbel gezet onder een contract dat hem de komende twee jaar in De Grolsch Veste houdt. Doordat de 39-jarige Sander Boschker nog steeds geen tekenen van verval vertoont, kwam Mihaylov slechts tot zeven competitiewedstrijden in de hoofdmacht van de ploeg van Steve McClaren.

In de voorronde van de Champions League maakte Mihaylov grote indruk tegen Sporting Lissabon. Hij kreeg de kans omdat Boschker rood kreeg. Bij FC Twente twijfelt niemand eraan dat hij de aangewezen man is om de huidige eerste goalie van de club op termijn te vervangen.

It's a shame he's going, I'm very impressed from what I've seen, think he's a big talent. He'll probably be first keeper next season at Twente when Boschker retires.

Obviously though Reina isn't going anywhere, so he wouldn't have been able to play for us soon anyway.
