I dunno if we have one of these threads, couldn't find one anyways. Needed though!

My laptop right now is being a complete and utter c**t. Won't go past the initial grey start up screen with the apple logo. Just sits there loading FOR-E-VER. Trying troubleshooting at the moment, but nothing so far.

Anyone else had this problem with a mac?

I really just wanna throw the thing. I hate when computers do this. F***ing fu**ed up piece of sh*t.

My computer is the slowest piece of sh*t out! Makes weird noises from the tower when it has 2 programs up because it's on 'overload' () and then just stops working for a few minutes then goes back to working and then slows down again and then acts normal then fucks up again!

No, I know that frustration. Sometimes that's worse than a computer not working at all, as you waste so much time and patience waiting for it to load just a simple word program or something! I'm really hating on computers right now.

Ok, so that's the fifth time since yesterday that my RAM has given up. It just suddenly stops working and the computer crashes and shuts down.
I am having to remove and re-put the RAM again and again. I haven't been able to get past that one Lyon game on FM till now, and I have already played it thrice.

If I recieve a message on facebook chat the whole system will freeze. Ridiculous!

And when someone replies on Facebook chat, if your typing on another site you have to click outside that typing box to be able to type again because its frozen!

People seem to think thay Apple or Macs in general are immune to viruses.  That is a very bad misconception.   Good computers, the tech side is very strong and reliable. However they can get viruses.  What you describrd seems to be an issue with the Hard Drive or another H/ware component.  Their is obviously a corruption in the start and boot process.  I dont have a Mac and have never used one for a considerable amount of time.  I would atempt to boot to a safe mode and run a system diag.  

1. It should give you a straight up answer on a H/ware issue.  If the H.drive or CPU is corrupted or bad.  It should not allow aboot to the safe mode.

2. If its a virus or malware, then in safe mode you should be able to run anti virus and a malware program.  If you cannot get to the AV program.  Find a working computer. Download a AV program directly to a thumb drive along with other programs and boot it directly from the thumb drive.  If it still doesn't work I would contact Apple and see what they say. Try www.cnet.com go to their download link and it should be able to provide the correct program for you to use.  Make sure it is apple compatible.

So I took my mac in to be fixed, hopefully 5-7 days. Sounds like it's serious, just hoping they don't have to wipe the hard drive.. Couldn't really afford the $90 back up fee. So fingers crossed!

A mammoth document that took me ages to write, I'm talking at least 2 hours 30mins, I finished it, saved it and bloody e-mailed it, to where it needed to go. Ther person never recieved their e-mail, it's not in their inbox, or my sent items, or anywhere! It's not in my documents, can't find it using the search function....MY F***ing WORK HAS JUST F***ing VANISHED!!!

We have a hi-speed router that is usually connecting us with no problems - apart from today.

Usually it'd connect everyone in the house at roughly 300Mbps (high-speed), and keep everyone's signal constant. Not today.

Today what happened is it connected people, then the signal would drop down from 300Mbps to 1Mbps (unworkable) in a matter of seconds.

I tried everything - hard resetting, unplugging, changing the WEP settings, and nothing worked. Then I remembered I had an old high-speed relay router from a few months back.

Eventually I figured that if the router was feeding the relay router a signal, the signal towards the devices from the relay router would be constant, thus giving everyone a connection. And my theory actually worked! Couldn't be happier right now!

I HATE these websites completely loaded up with videos, java and flash animations and "trendy" menu's. most of them make the whole system freeze.

F***ing Mac Store in Eugene Cos its just an affiliate of apple, and not an actual official store, they are quoting $99 an hour to fix my computer - and $90 back up fee that i mentioned.

So i ring apple care, and they are like "Err, if you can get it to our store we do it for free, and back up for free.. that's what the warranty is for after all!" Basically saying even he thought that store was a bunch of cu*ts! So im gonna take my computer back from them, having rang them back and said i aint gonna let them touch it. Only problem is there is no apple store here, so having to wait until im in California in a week to do it

Haha, suddenly my computer is working again. I didn't do anything apart from making sure that all the cables were connected. They already were, but maybe not perfectly connected and thats why it wasnt turning on... well, I have no idea of what happened, but I'm glad I have it back Hopefully it will stay this way

Mine kept doing that a couple of years back, then my bro (pc engineer) told me to check the fans inside, and give them a brush out, and also check the power connections inside.

Since then, I take the fan off the processor every six months or so (and the one on the power pack) and give them a good clean, and bingo, no more probs.

I'll be getting him to build me a new one soon anyway - so much cheaper than buying one pre-built, and he has an account with novatech or someone similar, so it's all good

Ha tempting but unfortunately i'm a skint student, and broken Xbox 360's don't make as much money as they used to. :p

Finally got my xbox fixed, again! Keep an eye on this thread to see if it'll break again. Anyway helped me rediscover Assassins Creed.

My older brother and his wife aren't very computer savy, so whenever there's issues or they need something more complicated done I usually help them. They have a laptop with windows vista on it. A while ago the DVD player/writer started having issues with reading discs, they never really used it so not a big problem, untill now. Not sure what happened, but somehow the last time they were on the computer they didn't close off properly or they closed it during an update, or something like that. Because the next time they turned it on they got that start up screen with safe mode options and stuff, but whichever option is chosen, windows won't start, just keeps loading for ages. So, ofcourse the only option left is repairing windows through the installation DVD, but ofcourse, the damn DVD player is unable to read the damn thing and won't boot from it! So now I'm going to copy the windows DVD content onto a USB stick and try to boot it from there, or something. Probably my only chance, since I doubt the BIOS will recognise an external DVD drive as alternative, but you never know. I never have any computer issues myself, but I always get really frustrated helping others with their computer issues! Somehow it's always something that should be fixed fast but ends up taking ages.

if you are using Firefox, that could be the problem, such as add-ons. I had the same problem a few months back, think it was the real-player add on the was the problem.

Take it it's a pre vista version of Windows so if there's a dvd/cd to reboot it?

No, it's not pre, it came with the laptop. I have windows 7 myself and have a DVD to boot it with as well, came with my PC. Managed to boot it from the USB stick though, ofcourse then I ran into some other issues but, after formatting and reinstalling I got it working again.
