If we don't finish 4th it will only be another reason for Rafa to be given zero transfer funds, I'm F***ing sick of this if Rafa is not given sufficient transfer funds in the Summer we won't be in the top 4 again next season.

And the Rhone Group our saviours are you mad as Huyton said they are leveraged buyout specialists. An investment bank that is basically funding John Muse Tom Hicks friend to purchase 40% of the club. This is the same John Muse partnered with Tom Hicks that nearly destroyed Corthinans in Brazil.

I dont like talking the stick from other people!!!
Its bad enough when we got knocked out the champions league, then lost to Reading, and all the other sh*t teams that we should have beaten!!!
Not getting 4th?!    I will hibernate until next season!!

But as said above- i dont believe much will happen if we fail to finish 4th- No champions league footie next year?
No-one will leave, or at least no-one we care about-
Concentrate more on the league next season??  We need shiny number 19!!

Support our club as we always have/will..

And hope that one day we will turn on SkySportsNews and see the headline we have been waiting for!

Why have I opened a thread about what will happen if we dont get 4th but yet read mostly about Lucas?

Anyway we dont get 4th what happens is we get less cash and we dont play in the champions league next year which also means less cash which means less ability to buy players or pay the wages of the ones we have which might mean having to sell them which means the team gets weaker which means we will struggle to break top 6 never mind top 4

(The above is the opinion of Brian78 not general opinion and is worst case scenario)

At least someone on here is talking sense - there is a difference between optimism and blind faith - saying "we'll be just fine" or "we'll bounce back even better next season" is admirable but frankly its not facing up to the dier situation the club COULD face next season.

Lets talk about money for a second, presuming H&G are the owners still - if we don't get fourth, if anyone thinks there will be any money available needs to look at last season, got to the quarters in europe, finished second in the league, and were given what 15mil to spend?

Lets look at the teams that will most likely spend more than us in the summer, and tell me if i'm wrong here:

      -Man City
      -Man Utd
      -Chelsea
      -Arsenal
      -Aston Villa
      -Spurs

Obviously football is more than facts, figures, and money - but you are as only as good as the competition is, and we have to face the fact that we'll be at a sever disadvantage to our rivals next season if we don't get fourth, forget the delusions of grandieur. Then we can move on in the right direction.

When did we get £15M to spend after finishing runners up in the league? I'm pretty sure we didn't get any budget at all last summer. And if Riera goes for £6M we will have made about +£14M from transfers since Christmas.

We didn't qualify in 2003 and within 2 years we were the Champions of Europe.

Everton beat us to 4th spot in 2005 and did they go on to become a huge name again in Europe?

I think the media have whipped people in to a bit of an unnecessary frenzy about the importance of 4th place. If people are concerned that players will leave, then I'm actually quite intrigued to find out exactly which of our players place more importance on playing in the Champions League than playing for Liverpool FC and trying to win the Premier League.

If we don't finish 4th the world will stop spinning, some 'fans' will drown in a huge explosion of their  own semen, all the players will leave, we will have to play in blue kits and suicide rates will shoot up.

Or we could all get a grip and remember that Liverpool FC existed before 2004/05.

      Love it!!

On one hand I don't want the club to finish 4th which will piss the liars off considerably but on the other side of the coin I support Liverpool FC and always will and want the best for them but what is best here FOR the club.

      Understand you perfectly.

Not being in the Champions League is a price well worth paying if it signals the end of our current ownership and enables Liverpool FC to somehow once again become a club about the fans and the team - not about loans, interest and feeling depressed and miserable about the state the owners have got our club in.

As Stuey and JD have said life and LFC will go on and if it means less money for the leaches to cream off us then great.

Either way I am under no illusions about our current owners.  If they really gave a toss about us they would have backed Rafa for the last 2 seasons and given him some working capital to improve the playing squad.  Let's face it if we do finish 4th under the present conditions they will be justified in not needing to buy players.

The importance of finishing 4th or not is where before if we didnt finish there we normally went out and bought in the market with maybe only Utd having far more wealth in the market. Now if we dont finish 4th our pauper owners wont open the wallet to improve the team and we now have utd Chelsea Villa City Spurs to outspend us in the market and if they wanted to Arsenal.

Not finishing 4th and not qualifying for the cl would actually be a blessing in our bid for the title if we knew we could buy players and concentrate on the league. If were honest not only would we not have the money to buy players it would also be harder to attract some who are all about playing champions league.

Finish 5th lose the owners get someone in who will spend cash Id be as happy as.

Yeah I was a bit worried about that part too . With players coming to a big club and saying " I came here to play in the champions league " it's quite discouraging .

Nothing has happened yet Brian to prompt the carpetbaggers to get their hands in their pockets as for the wallet you mention the only wallets they interfere with are other peoples, no mate if we won the CL never mind finish 4th the rewards to the club would be minimal. That is going on past conduct the liars have never ever invested sh*t in this club why should they change?
Not a very optimistic comment Brian but to be optimistic would entail telling lies and we are not employed by H or G so finishing 5th should as you say be our new target.

Give me a break are you trying to tell me Lucas is better than Masch.

Suprisingly for a man with no attacking intent and a luxury player he has 2 goals this season Lucas has none. Has 3 goals in his Liverpool career the same as Lucas.

I wonder if you sold Lucas do you think you'd get £30 million for him Ngog, surely you would as according to you he is better.

Look if you want to win a league you need one no matter what changes you make you still need one, Chelsea have one, Utd have one, Barc have one, Real have one, Arsenal have one, City have one. We have the best one so what we do then is sell him Ngog and do what because we need one. Why don't we sell Torres as well sure we will get £70 million for him.

The players are incomparible as one is a defensive midfielder and the other one is an attacking midfielder being asked to play as a defensive midfielder.

Lucas is a better FOOTBALLER than Mascherano based on all round ability...of that there is no real debate.

Mascherano is a great defensive midfielder which obviously doesn't require as many attributes as someone who is box to box or playing further up the pitch but he is excellent in the tackler and closes people down well. I am a big fan of his but feel that we need to move him on.

His abilities are pretty much limited to those two things however and if we don't have the quality around him to benefit from him being there we need to think about a change of shape.

Lucas is not a better footballer than Masch that is your opinion and I'd bet you this is not a widely supported opinion. Masch is world class. Lucas is far from world class.

Look this is not the thread to be discussing either player if you want I've no problem talking to you about either player on their individual thread. Sorry for going off topic

The only other way to look at it Stuey is that we dont sell, other then what we dont want eg Riera, try and get 1 or 2 good free signings hopefully get the cash to buy 1 or 2 new players (BIG IF) and come back and regroup next season. But as I said earlier were silly to thing that the other clubs in the top 7 wont all be improving there squads to

Unless things change mate I can see our man getting totally pissed off with scraping the barrel and walking, he must be at the end of his tether with all the wind ups and blame he's getting while all the time the other two pricks whose fault it really is, are thousands of miles away from the crap they are causing LFC.

I normally would have the exact same outlook but realistically for us to get where we want to be we need to be a) signing top players and a fact of life is they crave champions league football and B) we need to match wage demands. Anyone who thinks the revenue from progressing through the champions league is not important is kidding themselves.

Torres Masch etc will stay but if we fail the following season do you think they still will stay?
