I repeat - if he's told he's going nowhere, he aint going nowhere
That only allows him to run down his contract and leave for free the next season and why would we want that?
but he left for £3M
£3 million more than we would of got 12 months later.
I'm not really saying we should have kept him, just we didn't HAVE to sell himie - Bayern turned down a bid of £20M for Ballack when he only had 1 year left to run on his contract, Bordeaux truned down a decent offer from Arsenal for Chamak in the summer - so to have let him leave for free would hardly have been unprecedented
Instead of keeping him "unhappy" for another year, it's better to just sell and get whatever profit we can instead of letting him go for nothing 12 months later. Either way, Bayern did not get to keep Ballack and Bordeaux probably won't get to keep Chamakh.
Now I know we're on a strict limited budget (I wonder who's fault that is) but surely with Portsmouth being allowed to sell players outside the transfer window, surely we could get Steve Finnan back at Anfield on the cheap. Even if we sold Aurelio for around £6 million as I think he'd be better sold than sitting in the physio's room, we could find the funds to bring back Steve and find the answer to our left-back problem. Only problem would be he would only be able to play next season due to FA rules.Anyone else think this?
I mean, what does £3M get you in todays transfer market (well as we know, it didnt get Rafa anything)
Well it got Real Madrid a pretty good full back.
Obviously they didnt/wont keep them - they just looked at it and thought they would rather keep them for a year and let them go for nothing and look at the Champions League campain Bordeaux are having this year with Chamak at the fore-frontI mean, what does £3M get you in todays transfer market (well as we know, it didnt get Rafa anything)
anyway, with the way Madrid were swinging the dosh about last summer, how did we only manage to squeeze £3M out of them???
Best £3M they've ever spent.They couldn't have bought Ronaldo's hair for that
They got Owen cheap because he was going into the last year of his contract and it was either that or get no money.
That's because Arbeloa had one year left, not 5.
Endulge me on the Billy reference?£3M was still loose change to that mob - we should have quoted them £15M and they might have came back with £7M
More like they would've said f**k off.I think the people involved with such things know what they're doing - after all it is their job.
It's not really got anything to do with H&G.
