      Aquilani out of Euro clash

      Aquilani out of Benfica game
Alberto Aquilani has been ruled out of Liverpool's Europa League clash with Benfica, manager Rafael Benitez today confirmed.

The Italian international sustained an ankle injury in training this morning and won't be with the Reds' squad which flies to Lisbon later today.

"He will not be available for this game," said Benitez. "He had a problem with his ankle this morning and we have to fix it.

"It doesn't seem too serious but it's the same ankle as before and so we'll have to analyse the situation carefully."

Benitez also confirmed defender Martin Kelly will undergo a knee operation today which will rule him out of action for the rest of the season.

Not too sure how to quote a news piece but seems Aquilani has injured his ankle again (same one)...

      Cocks! :f_doh:

Probably not but this is getting beyond annoying.

If we're buying anyone in the summer I hope they're not going to turn out like this.  We do not need another injury prone player.

Play Gerrard centrally, we managed without Lucas and Aquilani against Sunderland (excluding Aquilani's cameo)

No need to change a winning team but of course for Maxi who's cup tied, Babel Right Yossi left or vice versa.

I mean we've had a horrible run of injuries and stevie and nando have there annual injury lay offs?

I wouldn't have played him in Benfica either. And to be honest, I'm not sure I would have played him at Birmingham.

He's pretty clearly fu**ed.  This season has been a total write-off.  Let's hope it's not his career (or we're insured).

ahhh for funk sake. pitty cus he's class and not injury prone in fm/fifa 2010. you'd never know tho, cud be related back to the debate about his fee rising for appearances, if this is the case and he's sitting idle and keeping his mouth shut then fair play to him for taking one for the team. still at this rate we could do with an A&E at mellwood.

Bloody ankle injuries. Mine was done in 2 years ago, and still hurts - haven't had surgery or nothing, but my doctor did say that once the ankle is damaged badly, it can never be as strong as it was.

Was always a risk buying the lad, and we may be cursed by it. But that's what happens when you are on a budget - you end up trying to buy quality cheaper. Some may scoff at 20m or whatever as being cheap, but last transfer period that was indeed cheap in comparison to some other deals.

Let's just hope its nothing serious.

Don't know about anyone else but I am starting to get fed up with the amount of injuries he is getting or viruses, this season has been a waste of time apart from the 1 goal he has scored. Hopefully throughout pre-season he can work on not getting injured and then coming back next season stronger and not so prone to injuries because he could become an important player. Would have him consider a flew jab too, might help the immune system.

Bloody ankle injuries. Mine was done in 2 years ago, and still hurts - haven't had surgery or nothing, but my doctor did say that once the ankle is damaged badly, it can never be as strong as it was.
Did anyone see MOTD2 with Dean Ashton.  Similar thing happened with him.  In the end they had to fuse his ankle bones and he retired from the game.

      Mark my words.

Anyway I'm sure it's a good excuse for some to blame Rafa.

Because Rafa is the entire Liverpool medical team that will have checked and assessed the player prior to signing.  In fact I bet Rafa operated on him, ala Dr Nick Riviera (Source: News of the World).

I very much doubt it seeing as they have only gotten about 2.5 of it so far. His deal has been based around instalments and a number of these instalments after a set amount of appearance.

Ultimately you have to feel for the player because he's obviously got talent and wants to play, yet he keeps having setbacks with that ankle.

We've got plenty of options to use if we are gonna have to fill the gap behind Torres and drop Gerrard back in midfield though. That seems the most obvious, sensible thing to do to me. Just as if Aquilani was fit, I'd rather have him behind Torres and Gerrard back in midfield. So I'm not going to start panicking or getting a cob on just yet.

      Hope you're back soon Alberto!

Everyone is quoting £17m, £20m... in actuality, all we've paid Roma so far is around £7m/£8m.

The fee they get is dependant on how many appearances he gets, and how much we win.

(1)Hope Raffa's optomism is justified and the injury not too bad.
(2)Hope Alberto gets himself fit and well just to shut all the whingers/bashers up.
      (3)Hope ---''--- becomes a legend.

Disastrous, our Doctors need shooting for a piss poor assessment of a player us mere mortals could have concluded was a massive gamble.

Fair enough Gary mate, but I'd rather be paying top whack for a player that was helping us to win games every week (as I know you would too). I'm pretty pissed off with it now to be honest.
