Liverpool to visit the BORUSSIA PARK

To mark the club's 110th anniversary, Borussia have lined up a pre-season friendly against top-quality opposition in the shape of Premier League giants Liverpool.

Borussia will usher in the 2010/11 campaign by hosting the 18-time English champions at the BORUSSIA PARK on Saturday, 31 July (kick-off: 1530 CET). "Liverpool are worthy and attractive opponents for our anniversary who are likely to ensure our stadium is really full," said director of sport Max Eberl.

With 18 titles to their name Liverpool are England's most successful team alongside Manchester United.

Borussia have faced the Reds five times in their history. In 1973 the Foals were beaten 3-0 by the English side in the first leg of the UEFA Cup final, which meant the 2-0 win in the return was not enough to lift the trophy. In 1977 Borussia lost 3-1 in the European Cup final, and a year later the two teams met again at an earlier stage of the same competition. Gladbach won the first leg of the semi-final 2-1, but were knocked out after losing 3-0 at Anfield in the second game. Despite the explosive nature of these clashes a deep friendship arose between the fans of the two clubs that has been maintained to this day. After the Hillsborough disaster in 1989, when 96 people lost their lives, Gladbach supporters collected money for the bereaved families, thus reinforcing the friendship. "This was just one of the reasons why many fans in both camps have longed for the teams to play each other again in a friendly," said club secretary Stephan Schippers. "We've now succeeded in reviving an old tradition in time for the club's 110th anniversary." Tickets for the game will go on sale on 24 April.

After the opening pre-season friendly against Liverpool a huge party will take place for the fans on the BORUSSIA PARK site. Thousands of Borussia supporters and friends are also expected to attend the family day on the Sunday (1100 to 1800).

Jumping the gun just a touch there lad, if we do win, the super cup is the day after the draw for the group stages of the Champions League, so usually towards the end of August.

Any news on the rest of our preseason plans, hope we have a better one than last years which carried on into the start of the season, would like to see the players as a team sort out some of the problems which we have had throughout the season, buying a few new better players wont fix everything, we have under 2 months to sort ourselves ready for the start of the new season and i would like to see us have a meaningful preseason footballwise as opposed to a shirt selling tour of Asia

Occasionally some of their fans make trips over here, I know the club have sorted them with tickets for their visit, personally remember about 50 of them in the Kop way back in 1995, think it was QPR (only remember, because the stub was voucher for Man U at home)

I recall when I went to watch the Euro 2008 (Croatia vs Germany) in Klagenfurt ended up on a wagon full of Germans.

Anyways meet a nice bunch of German fellow's who were all Mongledbach supporters, we got talking and I told them I was a Liverpool fan all their comments were nothing less than awe and respect for us.

They were a very good and technically sound team back then. They lost some of the games due to luck on our side. Haven't seen them play for a long while. Are they still in their Premiere Bundesligue? Yeah, this game will certainly bring back the good memories.
