      Your Top 5 To Buy
      Apr 24, 2010 01:03:15 am
Didnt think this suited the Kop please move if you prefer this there!.

With gerrard and torres saying we need 4 quality players if you had to bring in 5 new players who would your top 5 be? think a little realisticly no Messi's etc also feel free to give reasons.

      1. Joe Hart - i said it when he was number two at man city when they had that sweedish bloke who moved to PSV he is going to be the new england number one and a world class goalkeeper one day.

      2. Schweinsteiger - think if the unthinkable happens of gerrard going i say ideal replacement or shift out lucas bring him in!.

      3. Balotelli - with rumors of bust up with the batty man they will prob look to shift him out if the price is right he would be class if we was to switch to 442.

      4. Ashley Young - with Riera on his way out ashley young would be a excellent winger of us.

      5. Sakho - hes a young strong defender who could come in now spend a season learning from carragher to improve his game and it would be excellent.

i could go on and make this list about 25 players long but 5 is more than enough as gerrard says we only need 4!

IMO, if we are limited to one big signing and could afford it then I would just go all out for Kun Aguero and then pick up Joe Cole on a free.

      Anyway my 5 would be;

      Aguero
      Silva/Mata
      Joe Cole
      Kjaer
      Vargas
      crouchinho

      Bent
      Mata
      Ansaldi
      N'Zogbia

And probably a back up keeper if Cav leaves.

      3) Right winger
      4) target man (to give something diffrent)
      5) midfielder

Assuming Rafa sticks with his 4 2 3 1 our squad for next season (potentially)

      Reina (Martin)
      Johnson (Kelly)
      Skrtel (Carra)
      Agger (Sotis)
      New left back (Insua)

      Masch (Lucas)
      New signing (Aqua)

      New signing (Kuyt)
      Gerrard (Pacheco)
      New signing (Yossi)

      Torres (new signing)

      Fill in the blanks!

That leaves Maxi Babel Jovanovich N'Gog Nemeth and a few young lads as cover

I'd like to see us sign a winger, a left back and a striker. Maybe a central midfielder as well.

      I'd go for:
      1. Mata, Silva or Turan for the left wing
      2. Vargas or Cissokho for left back
      3. Dzeko up top
      4. Someone in the mould of Miguel Veloso? Creative central midfielder.
      5. N'Zogbia is a good shout for a squad player. Quick, can beat his man, good crossing and finishing. Can play left or right, or even left back.

Wow how much do I hate this term. If we are serious about winning the Premier League we can't be signing "squad players" we've been doing it for as long as I can remember and you can see the reward or lack of, that it has brought.

1 - Left Back (Vargas or Cissokho)
      2 - Left Midfielder (Silva)
      3 - Right Midfielder (Lennon)
      4 - Striker (Aguero)

But I'm dreaming so I think it will be this:

      1 - Left Back (Cissokho)
2 - Right Midfielder (Joe Cole)
      3 - Left Midfielder (Turan
4 - Striker (Jovanovich, maybe Carew)

You do need them to win titles, though. Right now our squad is so thin that 2 or 3 injuries and we look a far weaker prospect. We need to sign some top quality players for the first XI, but we also need players of a sufficient calibre to step in and do the job.

All title winning sides need good squad players.

Flog Babel, Yossi and Riera off and we'll need back up to the first choice left winger. Much worse than N'Zogbia out there. I really like him as a player.

Parker and Cole have already proved they can't cut it at a top team, not worth the risk IMO.

c'mon what this decent owner stuff? I hate the american tw*ts too, but...

Being optimistic and in millions $:
Lahm --> no less than 15
      Silva--> i doubt less than 20
Mata or Turan --> 20 more (though mata would me more expensive and arda maybe less)
Joe Cole or Javi Martinez  --> Free or another 15 at least.
Aguero --> No less than 50 for this beast.

a minimum 130 million dollars anyone? We're not talking about decent owners here we're talking nonsense. The thread was supposed to be slightly realistic I think. And if you're gonna say well Real Madrid spent some more, well Real Madrid ain't winning a damn, and Florentino Perez is a tw*t as twatty as H&G. I don't even think Man City spent that much the last summer.

      I'd like to see hmm.

-->1 LB: I'd like to see vargas, though he wouldn't cost less than 20 mill.
-->1 FW: No way we will EVER get aguero. I say maybe Dzeko would be nice. One guy I really love is Radamel Falcao TBH. And that jovanovinovich guy to give some cover. And Nemeth please (funny hoy we got kuyt and babel and they are so useless up front). (20mill?)
-->1/2 wingers: I'd love to see Joe Cole on a free. Personally I like N'Zogbia too. Or Hazard. (8-15mill?)
-->1/2 midfielders: Ireland maybe, or VDV, who knows?  (8-15mill?)

So that makes like 60-70 millions. A lot of money but seeing how little money rafa has got last years, I'd think of it as some kind of strong investment from new owners. If we're thinkng about getting 5 players with H&G, then it would be like 4 players on a free and a 20mill player but I don't even wanna think about it.

Trying to be a little more realistic, I'd be happy with Steven Fletcher (who we could get for a reasonable price as Burnley are relegated) instead of Aguero, who is probably out of our reach

Being realistic, even with new owners: Wilson (8m), Warnock (10m), Joe Cole (free), Simao (5-8m), Carlton Cole(6-10m)

Say we get some serious cash: Chielini(15-20m), Vargas (10-15m), Joe Cole(free), Lennon (20-25m), Benzema (20m)

Even if we only get 3 players i'll be delighted if they are a top left back, striker and left winger.

Ansaldi, Mata and Dzeko and we're done and dusted.

Maxi/Kuyt on the right and Mata/Babel on the left with Benny being able to play on both flanks has us sorted on the wings.

Dzeko and Torres up top - sorted.

Ansaldi and Johnson on the flanks at the back with Kelly and Insua as back up. Sorted!

Ideally i would love a solid left back, im not one for taking players back to the club as obviously they qwerent good enough in the first place, but i would like warnock back, hes been solid enough for villa this year!

My number one choice would be Van Der Vaart, think he's a cracking player
      Warnock
      Mata
Would take joe cole on a free
Have we signed jovanovich? If we have then thatl do me!

You do need them to win titles, though. Right now our squad is so thin that 2 or 3 injuries and we look a far weaker prospect. We need to sign some top quality players for the first XI, but we also need players of a sufficient calibre to step in and do the job.

All title winning sides need good squad players.

Yes all good sides have squad players but by signing 3 or 4 quality players (LW, young CB, ST and RW) they could all possibly slot straight into the first eleven hereby placing those currently in the first eleven (Kuyt, Babel, Benayoun, Insua) to the bench as squad players.

Flog Babel, Yossi and Riera off and we'll need back up to the first choice left winger. Much worse than N'Zogbia out there. I really like him as a player.

Definitely much worse than N'Zogbia but if want to challenge for a title we need to sign players who the other 3 big teams would have wanted to sign, or will be afraid of playing. Big name, quality players. Plus I wouldn't sell Babel or Yossi unless they wanted to go so there would be no need to sign him if we signed a quality left winger instead.

Dzeko will set you back 40M EUROS

I don't think so, AC Milan almost bought him last season for 16M (more or less) and this season he has scored less goals than then.

16 m? I don't believe that, that would be vastly undervalued. And he still scored 20+ goals this season while Wolfsburg had an awful season, so he won't be any cheaper. The rumours this january were 20 million + Huntelaar or 20 million + Jankulovski and Kaladze. He does have a release clause of 40 million euros but I doubt anyone will pay that.

Yes, I confused with Huntelaar, it was 20M. It was almost done in July but Dzeko didn't pass the medical.

If we get decent owners think we could realistically get the following

      Left back Cissohko from Lyon
      Central defender Gary Cahill
      Left Wing Nzogbia
      Striker Rodallega

If we get unbelievably loaded sheiks

      LB Lahm or Sissoko
      CB Simon Kjaer
      LW David Silva
      CF Sergio Aguero

If we keep the same American scum owners they MIGHT allow the following transfers..

      Left back Kevin Kilbane
      Central Defender Titus Bramble
      Left wing Chris Eagles
      Striker Johan Elmander

      Hahahaha :)

Cissoko only signed for Lyon this season for a pretty hefty fee. I doubt he'll come for anything under 20m.

Quality player but better out there for the 20m.

Two players for every position and not sh*te replacements either:

      Reina
      Cav

Best keeper in the world, decent backup, wouldn't be surprised to see Cav leave though.

      Johnson
      Darby

In an ideal world, I'd sell Johnson and buy another right back but I can't see that happening so he stays first choice and Darby as backup. Don't forget Kelly when he recovers from injury

      Skrtel
      Agger
      Sotis
      Carra
      Ayala

Five centre halves, should do the trick until the end of next season when Carra leaves.

      ?
      Insua

Insua not experienced enough yet, Aurelio to leave. Quality player needed.

      Masch
      Gerrard
      Lucas
      Aquilani

Can match any midfield in the country. Two will play deeper, and one behind the main striker/

      Maxi
      ?

Maxi should start regularly, need a better player than Kuyt to rotate with though in that position

      Aquilani
      Benayoun
      Kuyt
      Pacheco

Three players (plus Gerrard obviously) who can play behind the main striker. Top prospect in Pacheco too. Don't need strengthening.

      ?
      ?

Benayoun and Babel can play there but for next season we need one class left winger and a back up since I want Babel sold and Benayoun to be a squad player for the central role

      Torres
      Jovanovich
      Nemeth
      Ngog
      Kuyt

      Depth yes, talent no.

Put Ngog out on loan, and get an experienced physical striker in.

      --------------------------------------------------------------------------

      Right so we need:

A young GK if Cav goes or promote someone from youth (we should buy Smithies from Huddersfield and loan him back)

A good left back (Cissokho? Bridge? Bale?)

A quality left winger (Turan, Silva, Mata?)

A back up right winger (Joe Cole)

Another back up winger (Petrov of City? Something like that)

      Another striker, physical (Carew, Jones?)

Get those and we're looking at a squad that can win the league.

      1. Left Back
Don't have anyone in mind to be honest. Looks like Gareth Bale fits in. However, don't really see him much in defending but he's a pretty good defender. Wayne Bridge probably not because he's not getting younger.

      2. Striker
Though David Villa is very tempting to be mentioned, I would think we need someone like Carlton Cole or Kenwyn Jones. Someone good in the air, I guess. John Carew is not getting younger.

      3. Three Creative Wingers or Wide Midfielders
David Silva? Joe Cole? Arda Turan? Even better all three. Van der Vaart deserves a mention too.

Our midfield of Masch, Lucas, Gerrard and Aquilani are good enough.

I don't have any complaints of our CBs in Kyrgiakos, Carragher, Agger and Skrtel.

Our right side, Johnson is pretty good going forward but questionable defending. Darby makes a good cover.

Our left, Insua, I wouldn't say he's young if we got Bale because they're both the same age. Aurelio would be my first choice if fit, though.

Pepe Reina, world's best keeper only needs Cavalieri, if not, Gulacsi as back up.

Strikers, Fernando Torres is the best forward and it would help to have someone like Jones or Cole around him. N'gog can be a decent back up.

Our wide players/wingers, we have Maxi, Kuyt, Benayoun and Babel. Kuyt, Benayoun and Babel can be decent back ups to Cole, Silva and Turan.

In this case, we can allow El Zhar, Riera, Cavalieri, Degen and probably Kuyt and Benayoun to leave but only if we can get better players for the latter two.

If this does happen, I can see number 19th for us come May 2011.

We need a left back - Monreal at Osasuna is young and would be cheap or Bastos at Lyon. As for strikers Villa and Silva are ideal but Villa looks like he is off to Barca and Silva may stay in Spain as well. I would like Banega, Mata or Pablo from Valencia. I hope Rafa doesn't go for Pantelic at Ajax as he has technical ability but no real pace. Guiza from Fenerbahce would be a great signing. I sound like Rafa with all these spaniards. Also possibles like Danny Wilson is a great signing, him and Ayala will make a great partnership. Someone like Siem De Jong at Ajax , a young goal scoring midfielder. Forget Joe Cole-when was the last time anyone saw him play well ???????

Ok so if we're looking at 5 players
      I'd still sell :)
      Degen - £2-3m
Aurelio - £1-3m  Too old and our last chance to get some £££ for him maybe
      Riera - £4-6m
      El Zhar - £2m
      N'Gog - LOAN

So that's an extra what? £11m?
So we're replacing Aurelio, pushing Darby/Kelly to back up right back, bring in a right winger and a left winger to replace Riera, Jovanovic is already coming in so are we counting him? Cus if we do we got Shelvey as well, so i'll leave it ;) Then it's a backup for Nando and to get Nemeth back and make more use of Pacheco :)

      So...
      J.Cole - FREE
      Kolarov/Lahm/Bale - Around £10m?
      D.Wilson - £4m? Looks likely too
      Mata/Turan - £17-23m
      Balotelli/Jovetic - £12m
      So we'll say.........£46m?!
      -the £11m from sales.........£35m?
      Fairly reasonable i'd say......maybe......hope fully :P

      Reina
      Cavalieri

      Johnson
      Darby
      Kelly

      Lahm/Kolarov/Bale
      Insua

      Carragher
      Agger
      Skrtel
      Sotis
      Ayala
      Wilson

      Maxi
      Benayoun
      Mata/Turan
      Cole

      Cole
      Babel
      Benayoun
      Mata/Turan

      Mascherano
      Gerrard
      Aquilani
      Lucas
      Shelvey
      Spearing

      Torres
      Balotelli/Jovetic
      Nemeth
      Pacheco
      Babel

THAT, is a top, top squad :D

In his prime i absolutely loved him and to be honest if we'd had him this season maybe we wouldn't have had so many problems at Left back, but his best days are certainly behind him. Same story as Steve Finnan. He WAS a  great player.

The way it is nowadays, any of the top targets like Villa, Silva, Eto'o, Aguero etc. You just can't get them unless you pay about £20-30M.

That all depends on how much money we're allowed to spend. If it's the same as the last 2 seasons, we'd have to sell quite a few fringe players just to buy one class player like the ones named above.
If we're given enough to splash, I think we need another class striker, A good safe left back, and another right back.

If Glen Johnson can learn how to defend properly we won't need him replacing, but still we'll need cover for him since he's rather prone to the odd injury or two.

I don't watch enough european football to know what strikers look like they'd be able to score in the premiership.
Everytime i've watched Lahm play for Bayern he's looked class. I'd love him to sign. Someone mentioned Joe Cole could go on a free? Wouldn't mind him either.
As for a striker, i think we'd need someone who's proven in the premiership since anyone from la liga, serie A etc who would be an obvious success, would also have an obviously huge price tag.
I think Darren Bent would be a great signing. He's a great poacher and that'll get you goals no matter who he's playing for. Some strikers who play for lower league clubs and score 20 a season can only do it because they're the main man at that team e.g. Robbie Keane. But Bent is such a natural goalscorer, i reckon he'd be a boss buy and he wouldn't cost you a bomb.

Still unsure on a right back.

You're right about Bent. Forgotten about him at the back of my head!

He's shown that he's able to score goals in the league. Be it for Charlton, Spurs or Sunderland, he's a well proven Premier League forward.

      1. Left Back
Don't have anyone in mind to be honest. Looks like Gareth Bale fits in.

as much as i'd love to see Bale here, Bale wouldnt give up the chance of champions league, and Spurs dont need to sell anyone. also, its unlikely we'll have enough money to spend 10 million on a left back.

Aurelio - £1-3m  Too old and our last chance to get some £££ for him maybe

isnt he out of contract in the summer so we'll get nothing for him.

Would love to see that Cissokho or Bastos from lyon, but again i cant see why they'd give up champions league football.

Bale's only just signed a new contract at Spurs (or is about to).

      No chance we'll sign him.

Surely Bent will want to play for a top side soon. Charlton, Spurs, Sunderland.
Yes i know spurs are in the champions league next season but when i say top side i mean, one with history, one that makes you pinch yourself when you pull on the shirt.

Benzema won't be coming to Liverpool. I think that much is guaranteed.

Too much demand for an outright transfer and the prospect of loaning him out is slim.

I wanted Bent in the off season and labelled him signing of the summer at 10m before the season started. He is a proven goal scorer wherever he goes. Not the best footballer but a damn fine goal scorer.

I think our options are slim. A mid table Spanish side maybe because their players are cheaper and usually better technically.

Llorente would be one i would like to see (from Atletic Bilbao).

      Left back Lahm 10 million
      Left Wing Turan 15 million
      Central Midfield/winger Joe Cole free
      Striker/winger Jovanovich free
Central Midfielder Javier Martinez 15 million
      winger Pedersen Blackburn free
      winger Petrov Man City free

      40 million spent.
Sell Babel and Riera for 16 million
6.5 million from Doss and Voro
sell Mikel San Jose 3.5 million to Bilbao
      sell Lucas 10 million
      sell Cavalieri for 2.5 million
      sell Plessis for 1.5 million

      Thats 40 million.

                                         Reina

      Johnson             Carra           Agger          Lahm

                                Gerrard        Masch

      Maxi                             Aquilani                 Turan

                                           Torres

Gulacsi as Cav will probs move on
Insua as Aurelio will probably move on
      Skrtel
      Joe Cole
      Martinez
      Jovanovich/Petrov/Pedersen
      Kuyt

Then if there is a transfer budget try and add some strength in depth, decent strong right back etc.

Lahm is worth way more to Bayern than £10m and Joe Cole's sign on free will be very high thus rendering the term 'free' insignificant. While carrying a lower sign on fee, Petrov and Pedersen would be the same.

This could make our net spend in the end in excess of £15m.

I like where your going but as I said, depends on the sign on fees and then of course the wage bill which in our case cannot handle multiple high money earners.

In a way we could free some wages up by promoting the likes of Kelly to cover for right back, Ayala to cover for center back and get the likes of Degen and Soto off the wage bill, guess it all depends on how much faith Rafa will have in teh youth he's brought to the club.

You lot must think we have endless pots of gold.

Bale for £10 million? I think not, more like £16 million (young, homegrown, full international, Premiership experience)

Bent would cost £20 million (Sunderland bought him for around £15million and he ave a solid goal return in a poor team, England International, could perform at the world cup)

Milner would cost loads, £30million (Man City have been linked at £24 million, we'd have to top that).

Lahm would cost somewhere between £10 to £20 million (if Bayern win the league and Germany perform at the World Cup expect this to go up).

Adam Johnson would probably not leave Man City (even if he did they would look to double the £7 million they paid for him. Plus he finished the season as their best player alongside Tevez).

Aaron Lennon £20million (full england international, experienced PL player. Could perform at the world cup).

I think we would have to be shrewd.

Anelka is out of contract in Summer. Martin Petrov is excess at Man City as is Craig Bellamy.
Pedersen has been mentioned, what about the likes of Altidore who looked good in poor teams, playing alongside quality in the Prem.

I watch Cardiff week in week out, Whittingham and McCormack are quality players who would like moves if the playoffs fall through.

We have no money to spend, the Yanks will pocket anything we make, so we need to be shrewd.

Oh well, we'll have to switch to an equally realistic target, such as Messi
