      Mamadou Niang (OM)
      May 06, 2010 05:41:35 pm
Premier League heavyweights Liverpool and Arsenal are both said to be keeping tabs on Marseille forward Mamadou Niang after he enjoyed another outstanding season in the French league.

The Senegalese striker scored the winning goal as L'OM sealed a 3-1 win over Rennes which, coupled with Auxerre's 2-1 defeat to Lyon, handed the southern side a first league crown since 1992.

Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez is rumoured to be interested in signing Niang, although a price-tag of £14million may put off the Spaniard.

However, the Reds could knock down the asking price by offering a combination of unwanted players in return - including out-of-favour winger Albert Riera or unsettled Yossi Benayoun and Ryan Babel.

Arsenal have also been linked with the 30-year-old, although Niang's age could be something of a stumbling block for Arsene Wenger - not to mention the exorbitant price-tag.

      What are your guys thoughts?

Never been impressed by him when I've seen him play to be honest, and that price tag is crazy for someone his age and quality.

I've always quite liked him. Absolute handful. Reminds me of Drogba in some respects.

However, not sure if it'd be the right move now. Maybe on the cheap I suppose.

Would certainly be a suitable back-up striker though I feel.

Great back up to have, but at 14 million this isn't going anywhere. No way we can afford 14 million on a backup striker.

For a 30 year old, I'd say no more than 5 mill.

No, Gerrard's a completely different player and is considered by many as the best midfielder in the world, don't be silly.

Purely talking about the player, I always liked him.

Good turn of pace, very tricky on the ball, strong, knows where the back of the net is.

But - not for £14 million. Maybe 2-3 years ago, but I don't agree paying it for him now.

      Interesting one, though.

Hopefully the 14m price tag is simply down to the journalist's interpretation.

Anything 7m downwards I'd go for. You never know though do you. He could end up being worth every penny.

Hello; I'm a "supporter" of Olympique de Marseille and Mamadou Niang is one of the best players in the team. He finished "best striker" of the french championship this season with 18 goals.  But we don't want sell him.  :P

      Diouf....Cisse.....

If we are going for a 14m striker why not go for a Zamora type who's proven in the premiership not take risks on foreigners.

Rather pay 25m for Niang than 2m for Zamora.

One is quality, and one was on the brink of signing for Hull "conga" City at the start of the season.
