Tottenham consider sending Roman Pavlyuchenko to Liverpool in swap deal for Yossi Benayoun

       - report 13 May 2010 00:31:00

Tottenham Hotspur could make a move that would send striker Roman Pavlyuchenko to Liverpool in exchange for midfielder Yossi Benayoun.

The Reds were looking to bring the Russian international to Anfield in the winter but Spurs asking price of Benayoun and £2million was too high for Liverpool.

Liverpool could decide to just sell the Israel international in a money deal and could get up to £10m from Spurs, Aston Villa, Roma, Sevilla or Dynamo Moscow, who have shown interest in Benayoun.

Spurs were close to selling Pavlyuchenko to Russian Premier League side Lokomotiv Moscow for £10m in the winter but with the striker returning to Harry Redknapp’s starting line-up Lokomotiv manager Yuri Semin fears that a move for the Russian will be tough.

“The situation has changed,” Semin told the Daily Mail.

“I'm afraid it will be difficult to get Pavlyuchenko.

“His team qualified for the Champions League and he regained the coach's confidence.”

Interesting offer. But I think not. Keep Benayoun.

I never understand why people on this forum (not saying the poster of this topic) are always so keen to get rid of yossi. He is in my opinion a quality player who is extremely versatile, very consisteny, prone to match winning performances and rarely lets us down. I would have him in the 1st XI every game.
BUT i would love to have Pav @ anfield and would, if available, spend the £10 to get him...just not at the expense of losing yossi

Have to say as I said when we were linked to him before, I'm really not a fan of this lad he is a very average player. This lad is not what we need.

I Rate Pav, good replacement for Crouch, and a good target man, think he'd be quality for us

It is a sad when Spurs rejects are exciting us. I want to be the first to say like I was with Keane if this lad comes he will be a massive flop.

I would rather pay £10m for this guy than watch Ngog start for the first team.

I must admit, if it is Yossi + 2m - that is pretty tempting.

Roman isn't the best player in the world, but as a second striker...

If we can get 10m for Yossi (which is being touted) then i would pass. I think we can get much better for 8m.

      My thoughts exactly.

Take the money for Yossi (assuming he wants to go or Rafa wants to sell) and bring in someone experienced who knows where the goal is, even if only as a stop gap for a couple of years until one or more of the ressies or kids is ready.

I would do that to, but I just can't see us getting £10m for him.

Roma, Sevilla, Spurs and Villa all in line and all have money. I wouldn't surprised if he left and his fee would be around that.

PAV TO POOL, BENAYOUN TO SPURS?
Swap deals never happen etc etc, but The Daily Mail reckons that 'Tottenham are considering a move for Liverpool midfielder Yossi Benayoun that could see Roman Pavlyuchenko move in the opposite direction'.

There's some logic to the story because Pool reputedly made an enquiry for Pavlyuchenko in the last transfer window and Benayoun has seemed rather unsettled at Anfield of late.

'The Merseysiders could find better value in doing a straight cash deal for their Israel midfielder and would hope to raise as much as £10m by exploring interest from Aston Villa, Roma, Sevilla and Dynamo Moscow - as well as Spurs,' says the Mail.

'Meanwhile, Lokomotiv Moscow fear that their hopes of signing Pavlyuchenko from Tottenham Hotspur are dead. The Russians came close to clinching a £10m deal for Pavlyuchenko in the winter but believe his return to Harry Redknapp's starting line-up will scupper a renewed attempt to lure him when the transfer window opens.'
