How many of us were unrealistic and blinded by what was going on off the park and the effect it will have on the season.

The smart, level headed and reasonable of us were not so oblivious to it.

We sure did.

Now look at it this way too can you really blame some of our "stars" for underperforming who played through their skin the year before and expected to see faces around them that will impact and improve the squad, only to see nothing.

We overachived in 2008-2009.

I'm not saying we suck or don't have good players but it's because we can't compete with the likes of Man United, Chelsea and Man City in terms of squad depth and money.

That's why finishing 2nd with squad that consisted of two 20 million pounds player, though one only lasted half the season, was a great achievement.

It brings us to believe with money invested into the club for signings, we would have seen more silverware in the trophy cabinet.

Nothing wrong with being optimistic.

To be honest hes right we would have to 'overachieve like 08-09' to be a least 2nd again let alone win it, we have to improve the squad with at least two quality players to play in the first team.

This thread wasn't optimistic, it was brutal. Many people attacked one of our most dedicated players, perhaps believing that they had a better insight than someone actually at the club?

People were expressing their opinions, which is what a forum is all about.

Liverpool fans aren't used to one of our top players writing off our title chances after two months. It's just not right.

Just read through to make sure i didn't say anything against Pepe, and i didn't I think i remember reading through this at the time, and thinking along the lines that RLB and others did in that it was an attack on our current owners rather than the playing staff. He was saying what we all have known for a fair while, in that we just don't have the depth in quality that the likes of Chelsea have, and even Spurs and City are starting to build.

Quite a good bump this, good to read through and see what the feeling was at the time. How right was he!! Love the man.

I think the whole team should publicly air their annoyance about the lack of investment, the more fuss made the better!!

Seriously though, the signs were there before Pepe opened his mouth. But a lot of reds can be forgiven for being in a false sense of security following on from our push for the title last year. We had every right to be optimistic around then to be frank - this topic was started in September 2009.

I'm certain your most pessimistic of Liverpool fans (won't mention any names) would have had the mancs down as winning the title in that month. That turned out not realistic either.

In other words, just like smurftheburn pointed out, everyone is capable of talking sh*te. Just depends how you look at things.
