Reina: Torres will stay with Liverpool

Liverpool goalkeeper Pepe Reina has warned suitors Chelsea and Manchester City that teammate Fernando Torres will stay at Anfield next season.

Torres has been linked with a move away from Merseyside after the club's poor campaign, with Chelsea, City and Barcelona supposedly in the running for the Spain international's services.

But Reina spoke to his compatriot this week and claims Torres is committed to turning the club's fortunes around.

"I am calm about Fernando," Reina said in quotes reported by The People.

"I spoke to him about his future and he has told me that he intends to continue with us.

"Fernando suffered so many blows last season, but he is a professional and has always wanted to do well for us.

"That is what he remains - committed to this club."

I honestly think Pepe has the integrety and rapport with the fans that would make him an excellent captain. He's in control of the game from the goalposts and many of the younger players look to him for inspiration (as Degen said in his interview). His attitude is much better than Stevie's, he should definately be the captain.

I didnt believe he would be going in the first place- but i am glad this can put some peoples minds at rest!

If Nando came out and made a statement everytime there was a story about him- he would have no time for anything else- he has said before he loves the club, the city, the fans, he is settled & feels like he has been here his whole life- what more could we want?

Every transfer window- someone has bid for Torres, offering him money & all the sucess in the world- he wants to do it in a red shirt, i am confident he will stay with us at least until the end of his contract.
