      Maradona Top 5
      May 16, 2010 01:45:44 am
Since I just saw the funniest rumour of the summer so far about maradona becoming manager of Liverpool I thought it could be an interesting topic. Do you think Maradona is in the top 5 greatest footballers of all time or not. If you ask me, hes number 2 behind Pele. what he done for Argentina was immense and he really could of done alot more had he not got so many personal demons. He has got alot of competition for top 5 so who would your top 5 foorballers of all time be and would it contail maradona?

To be fair, I have never seen those players you mentioned play so I can't really judge but I can say that I somehow feel that Pele has made much more of an impact on me than Maradona has.

And I don't think it's fair to compare a player of this generation to previous ones but I think it's okay to compare between players of the same generation, i.e., Ronaldo and Messi albeit having a small difference in age. Messi is brilliant to me. And about maybe 5 years ago, Zidane was one of the greatest but I can't tell if Zidane or Messi is better than Maradona.

I have to admit that Cristiano Ronaldo is a very skilful player even though I hate him so much.

Maradonna - close ball control I've never seen before or since.
Zidane - immaculate vision and awareness meant he rarely had to sprint.
Romario - 1 chance = 1 goal. No need to run like mad for 90 minutes, he was lethal.
Messi - breathtaking dribbling ability and an excellent eye for goal.
Paulo Maldini - solid, reliable and consistent over a long career, a model for all defenders.

That's in no order and based purely on players I've seen and can remember. Pointless me including the likes of Puskas, De Stefano, Pele, Cruyff and Beckenbauer.
Rush and Dalglish would make my top 10 I think.

Garrincha is quite possibly the most underrated player ever, outside Brazil (or maybe just England, cause I dont see him being mentioned between the best in English forums)

Him and Pele never lost a game together. In 1962, when Pele was injured, he was so great, that the Brazilian press often call it "the Garrincha World Cup" - like they do about 1994 and RomĂĄrio.

Anyway, it's impossible to judge players I never saw play, but the fact is Pelé was by far the biggest player of his time, like no one ever been before or after him.

Also, do not forget the white Pelé ;)

      Zico, o Pelé branco.
