LIVERPOOL CONSIDERING £8M MOVE FOR PORTUGUESE WINGER SIMAO
LIVERPOOL are considering an £8m move for Portuguese winger Simao.

Kop boss Rafael Benitez has struggled to find a left-winger for his under-pressure team. But now he is thinking of turning to the Atletico Madrid wide man.

Simao starred in Atletico’s Europa League semi-final win over the Reds, and their victory over Fulham in the final. But he is 30 and Atletico need some cash to start adding players to their side.

Simao has performed consistently in La Liga over the last three years and offers the type of experience that Benitez and Liverpool need if they are to battle their way back into the top four.

Benitez would also be interested in taking Yaya Toure to Anfield from Barcelona if he is forced to sell Javier Mascherano. He would get more money for Mascherano and could use some of that towards Simao.

Benitez fell out with Albert Riera last season and wants to move him on.

Simao has only a year left on his contract in Spain and would welcome a move to the Premier League.

He said: “Nobody has spoken with me in the last days about this subject.

“I only say that some people in Madrid have suggested that Atletico are preparing my sale, but I don’t know too much.

‘’I have always been interested in playing in the Premier League, but my head is in the World Cup and I have a deal with Atletico.”

I'd take Simao to solve our left wing issue, he's a decent winger, still I'd rather off load Babel and throw a couple of mill in for Turan.

Prefer Turan to be honest. Simao is a good player but he has had a poor season. He is 30 now so he only would be a stop gap. Turan is only 24.

      You get the picture.

£8m. If we're going to pay that, I'd much prefer to lash a few extra million on top (and let's be honest, we haven't got £8m so we can dream about £15m as well) and get someone arguably as good, 6 years his junior, and still improving.

Now theres an idea. Doubt they will allow that but maybe some dosh and Riera....never know :).

It seems that not only the Daily Star are reprting this. I remember being linked with him a few years back and Rafa said at the time that we missed out on him. Seen him play for Atletico but thats all. Seems a good wee player and quite tricky to handle. Only worry would be his age. However, Riera + £2-3m and & that would be a brilliant deal.

I was none too impressed with him when we were linked with him a few summers ago, and he hasn't done anything to really change my opinion of him since moving to Atletico.  He was/is a player of obvious talent and ability, but he goes missing way to often in games, and rarely seems to deliver on the big occasion.  Plus he's 30 now, so I've got to say pass on this one.

I'd much prefer us to go for his wing counterpart at Atletico, Jose Reyes.  Only 26 years old (going to be 27 in a few months).  He has blistering pace, can play as a striker and as a winger, and he has proven he can play in England (28 Goals, and 26 Assists in 3 years at Arsenal).  He absolutely torments full-backs with his direct runs and speed on the outside.

Should have had him in 2005. Not too late to get a good season or two out of him. We ain't going to be buying up and coming superstars this summer so Simao may plug the gap until we get decent owners.

Very good player IMO. Caused us problems everytime we've played Benfica/Atletico.

At 30 it's maybe not such an attractive deal but 4 quality seasons from this lad would be worth the £8m.

It would of been good move 4 years ago when he was in his prime. He is a good player but at his age we would be lucky to get 2 years out of him let alone knowing if he can handle the Premiership style.

Simao Sabrosa 'to join Fernando Torres at Liverpool next season'

Winger Simao Sabrosa could be set for a transfer to Liverpool this summer, where he will be paired with fellow former Atletico Madrid star Fernando Torres.

Portuguese winger Simao Sabrosa will play at this summer's World Cup
The 30-year-old wide man is being lined-up by Rafael Benitez in a bid to solve the Reds' left-sided problems, with Albert Riera currently out of favour.

Despite having only three years or so left at the top level, Simao could end up costing Liverpool as much as £8million - although cash-strapped Atletico are reportedly keen to sell the player to raise funds.

Simao never actually played alongside Torres, as he arrived in the summer of 2007 at the same time as the Spanish striker left for Anfield.

Benitez believes Simao's pace and crossing threat could reduce the pressure on his star striker by adding a creative element down the left.

But the Portuguese has played down talk of a move.
'Nobody has spoken with me in the last days about this subject,' he said.

'I only say that some people in Madrid have suggested that Atletico are preparing my sale, but I don’t know too much.

’I have always been interested in playing in the Premier League, but my head is in the World Cup and I have a deal with Atletico.'

Simao has one year left on his contract at Atletico, meaning a sale could be pushed through this summer or the Spanish outfit risk losing him for free in 12 months' time.

      http://www.metro.co.uk/sport/football/828276-simao-sabrosa-to-join-fernando-torres-at-liverpool-next-season?

We should offer them Riera as part of the deal, maybe a swap? Atletico Madrid were one of the clubs linked with him in January I think.

If he only has a year left on his contract i think his price will be closer to 5m, or even less.

Or just swap him for Riera if they want.

After all we did get their former captain for free.

      Atletico. Our official feeder club.

      Who'd have thunk it? :D

I'm still amazed we got Torres in the region £20m.

On topic though, I shall reiterate my stance on the matter.

      Arda Turan £15m/£5m+£Babel at 24 > Simao Sabrosa £8m at 30.

Exactly CRK, both Babel and Riera could be sold to fund a deal for Arda and to be honest that would rid the squad of two negative elements in terms of attitude.
