When he gets fit Torres needs to start with Fabregas in the hole.
Thats how the won the Euros. Villas injury then was a blessing in disguise as it gave them the solid formation they needed

I'm selfish, if Spain goes out early at least it reduces the risk of Torres getting injured.

If David Silva is gonna be toothless as he was today, then I don't want to see him at our club. :D

Hmmm are you really sure about that Dhruv ? *raises eyebrow* , I'd take him over what we've got hahaha .

Anyways , Silva didn't impress me today , I thought he was doing well with the through ball but then he cut inside waaay to much and Iniesta was sorta playing injured , which is why Del Bosque shouldn't of started him . I would've like to see Fabregas play  , and I would be be too surprised or upset if Pepe comes in tomorrow's game . Spain played a good passing game but did not finish well , Navas did great when he came on and Xabi was sooooo close though , if only it had gone in . Nando was not his noral 100% fit self , if he was he would've scored , I only saw Villa blossom once Torres was on . I just hope Chile were  too busy celebrating and not watching this match so that they play an attacking game with Spain which will give lots more space for Spain to play good passes . I thought Xabi was Spain's best player . Grrrrrrrr I'm so angry right now , I hope Spain do better next game and Nando is fully fit .

For some reason. . . Probably Torres and Reina. . . I had thought that seeing Spain do well would help me forget our miserable season. Well first game in and I have a horrible feeling of deja vu. Players coming back from injury and not hitting form as a result. Sound familiar?

OMG , I was thinking the same thing , I was praying that Torres and Reina succeed with Spain and be more determined to win with us and to just see them play and do well with amongst players of their calibre . I just hope Spain aren't like Liverpool last season but the Liverpool of last last season .

This was just their first game, let's not get carried away.

I can see them bouncing back and once they hit top form they will be unstoppable.

Guess which goalkeeper who excels at coming off his line would have saved that.  Casillas should be third choice, Reina and Valdes both suit Spain's style of play better.  Don't get me wrong here, Casillas is nothing short of world class and probably in the top few traditional goalkeepers in the world and would probably start ahead of Buffon for Italy or Lloris for France had he come from one of those countries, but the fact of the matter remains: Spain are a very attacking team with a high defensive line who often get caught on the counter because too many defenders push forward and that's when a GK like Pepe and even Valdes to an extent absolutely shine.  Also, like somebody mentioned earlier, Spain need a very defensively minded defensive midfielder for their tactics to work.  Pick a champion team, not a team of champions.

Spain kind of had the same issue as Holland had, they played Iniesta and Silva who both arent wingers with speed and depth, both tend to go inside. Better to have one pacey winger with depth, Navas was their Elia. Ofcourse it really just depends how your opponent plays too.

Jesus Navas looked great today. On the contrary, Iniesta looked like crap. He was way too selfish with the ball and hung onto it for wayyyyyy too long. Definitely one of the reasons why Spain lost. Spain tried to play way too fancy today. Theyre a quick pass and move team. Not a dangle inside the box and play chipped balls post to post. I think the Swiss got them severely off of their game today, to their credit, and thats why they won

Spain shoulda started with 2 upfront. Even if Torres wasn't fit they should of at least started Llorente next to Villa. Playing two holding midfielders was really stupid as well.

Also thought Casillas wasn't that good either, Reina should easily be starting instead.

      :D

If it was in the Euro, I would be pissed too. Half of my family came from Spain (the other half from Portugal) and my ex-girlfriend was also from a spanish family (all her grandparents were from Galicia). One of her grandfathers was a crazy Real Madrid fan, I remember him saying "we keep signing strikers but Raul & Moro are the best!" and then "you're taking one of the very best to Liverpool" :D

I always like to see Spain doing well and I celebrated their title in the Euro a lot. But in a World Cup, where they are favourites alongside Brazil (and a few other countries), I guess I must be happy to see them struggle. If Brazil was out of the competition, they would be my team in this WC.

It is true, there was no need for Sergio Busquets to cover the back line. Everyone knew the Swiss were going to put all their men behind the back and go on the counter.
