I would complain if we sold Insua.... he is only 20 and he has the potential to be a very good player.  He just needs more time to develop.  Bringing in Taiwo makes perfect sense, because it would allow us to use Insua in games where he will not be under as much pressure, which will aid his development.

We need to keep Insua, and buy a 1st choice LB

Marseille have warned Tottenham and Liverpool off a move for their Nigeria left back Taye Taiwo.

The 25-year-old is considering his future after losing his place towards the end of last season, when Argentina international Gabriel Heinze was shifted from centre half to full back.

Spurs have been alerted to the situation, while Liverpool were linked with him at the weekend as a possible replacement for Fiorentina-bound Emiliano Insua.


However, Marseille coach Didier Deschamps wants to keep hold of Taiwo and his president Jean-Claude Dassier insists the matter is now closed.

'It's done,' said Dassier. 'He's staying with Marseille. He's a top player and he should be staying here.

'I don't know if the old president promised that he could leave, but that's not me.'

Last week, Taiwo prefaced talks with Deschamps by insisting: 'If I stay in Marseille I want to play week in week out. My ambition has always been to play at the top level. Spurs are a fantastic team in the best league.'

The defender has just 12 months left on his current contract but there is talk of Marseille offering him improved terms.

The way I see it here is if we are genuinely interested in Taiwo we should get in with a reduced offer now, this lad has only 12 months left on his contract and Marseille are about to offer him an improved contract, however if we show our hand now especially considering Taiwo considers England to be the best league in the world, this might give the lad the onus to force the issue and leave both Deschamps & Jean-Claude Dassier with no option but to sell.

Nigeria's Taye Taiwo move to Atletico Madrid stalls

Nigeria defender Taye Taiwo's proposed switch from French champions Marseille to Spanish side Atletico Madrid has stalled, BBC Sport understands.

Taiwo had been expected to finalise the deal on Wednesday but the player's agent Michael Coker says the deal has hit problems.

The Nigerian had agreed personal terms with the Spanish side on Tuesday but Marseille are apparently insisting they want the transfer fee upfront rather than in instalments in the future.
