Had a package turn up at work, from Lovehoney, euphemistically described as a massager addressed to a Mr Hung at the Joy Factory.  Little things please little minds.  :)

Anyone ever leased a car for long periods rather than buying one?

No mate but have been looking into it with my Dad.

As far as I can see if you're going to keep changing your car and happy in the knowledge you will never own the car you're driving I can see the benefit.

You talking about a lease purchase agreement?
      Ridiculously expensive.
Buy a cheaper 2nd hand car if you can't go new.

At least over here the one thing to be careful of is the mileage. Most leases here in the states limit you to 12,000 miles per year. Also, there's usually a large up front security deposit.

I've typically stayed away from leases because to me I'd just rather be paying towards something I own.

A question here for anyone who knows anything about cars: How do you sell a personalised numberplate if it's on your car? I was given one a few years ago as a birthday gift and since then it's been assigned to my car i.e. it's on the V5, and now that I'm looking to sell my car I'm wondering if I can sell the numberplate separately? Let's say I stick it on one of those car registration sales sites, someone makes an offer, I accept it, and fill out the transfer form; what then becomes the registration of my car? The old one? Does that happen automatically?

Can't remember exactly how we used to do this when I worked in car sales but I think you need to reregister your car with a new number plate, with a new v5.  The personal one is yours to sell seperately.

Cheers, debs. Seemingly if you sell it on one of these sites online (I've asked a few for valuations) the buyer takes care of the transfer fee (80 quid) and that also covers the cost of re-registering the vehicle which is usually the old one. However I stand to be corrected by car experts.

That's the bit I can't remember mate.  It's over 10yrs ago since I worked in the industry so things might have changed anyway.  I'd check their website though, there should be something on there.

I haven't but I'm planning on doing it in the future without a shadow of a doubt.

Me and the missus have been at that 'do we need a second car' stage for a while but so far we've not needed to take the hit.  A couple of times recently if there's been a big clash and I've been stuck then I've hired a car.  If I'm doing more than about 150/180 miles then I'm effectively getting the hire car for free as the mpg on my own is shocking.

Apply that to the fact a lease car would be even cheaper than it makes perfect sense to me.

Was in an Irish bar last night in Dubai where the Guinness was amazingly good when the barmen directed my attention to one of many posters advertising a free draw for a flight to the UK to see LFC at Anfield!!
