TBH, IMHO this game, Leeds vs Derby, is better than most of the World Cup games.

The World Cup was a let down to be honest. I love watching the Championship games because the Referee seem to let the hard tackles flow and doesn't blow every 2 seconds.

That Leeds game was a good one. Thought they were a bit unfortunate to concede the pen, but in the final third they were crap, crossing was woeful. All in all, Derby deserved their win.

Fair play to him mate. He must be good.

I have a soft spot for Leeds United. No club, especially one as big as that, deserves to be low down so i would love to see them get successive promotion, although, it will be a very very tough task.

Love the Football League. Its really competitive, i know the players and sometimes it is nice to watch a league were you don't supports a team.

Plymouth Herald's coverage of Argyle v Southampton  ;D

Cartoons after Southampton ban photographers from Argyle match

IT'S comic book stuff as Plymouth Argyle start the season with a win — but these images form part of The Herald's coverage after rivals Southampton banned photographers from the match.

The drawings, by city historian and Herald contributor Chris Robinson, were commissioned in response to Southampton Football Club's controversial decision to force newspapers to buy photos from a single accredited agency.

The Herald, along with many other media outlets, had refused to buy the "official" images from Southampton.

In the end, Plymouth Argyle stepped in to provide a solution to the stand-off by releasing their own images of their players in their 1-0 season-opening win at St Mary's.

The Herald's editor, Bill Martin, said: "It's outrageous that a football club is blocking photographers from covering something which is of much interest and importance to many people.

"All credit to Argyle for putting the best interests of fans, their players and their sponsors first and publishing their own photographs."

Had that solution not been found, The Herald was ready with Chris's drawings.

Chris said: "It was an interesting escapade.

"I'm a bit rusty as far as that sort of thing is concerned, but I used to do a lot as a kid."

Chris said his style was inspired by comic strips such as Roy of the Rovers, and the result couldn't have been scripted better.

The lifelong Argyle fan said: "It was brilliant. After the struggle for points last season, it was great to start with an away win, especially against Southampton."

Rick Cowdery, Plymouth Argyle's head of communications, said: "We believe that the Green Army, our shirt sponsors Ginsters and our kit suppliers Adidas — not to mention our players — would have suffered as a result of Southampton's unpopular restrictions on Press photographers.

"On that basis, we decided to release pictures of our players during Saturday's wonderful triumph at St Mary's, taken by the club's official photographer Dave Rowntree, and put them into the public domain.

"Dave has been taking pictures of Argyle for The Herald for many years and we saw no justifiable reason why that should not continue this weekend.

"Had The Herald been forced by Southampton's ban to run their report of Saturday's victorious game without Dave's fine pictures of Luke Summerfield's winning goal and celebrations that followed, then we would have been letting our supporters down."

      And Southampton respond:

Football club defends ban on press photos
      by Helen Lambourne

A football club which has come under fire after imposing a ban on press photographers has sought to defend the move.

Southampton Football Club has now released a statement after it emerged last week it was refusing to accredit any photographers from the regional or national press.

The statement suggests the club has no intention of backing down on the controversial ban, saying images taken by its own professional photographers will be available for sale to the media to 'protect the club's commercial revenues'.

This comes after the photographic agency the club hoped to strike a deal with, Digital South, pulled out of a deal to be the only outlet supplying pictures from matches.

The statement says: "The club has decided to make available to external media organisations photographic images taken by the club's own professional sports photographers only.

"These images will be available to all media organisations on normal commercial terms. The purpose of this is solely to protect the club's commercial revenues derived from the use of its wholly-owned images.

"Saints fans will of course continue to be able to see a wide range of match day photography on the club website."

It adds there are no restrictions on media organisations reporting on games from Southampton's St Mary's Stadium.

But in response to the statement, Bob Satchwell, executive director of the Society of Editors, has written to the club for the second time, raising concerns the club would select which images are released to the media, which 'will clearly interfere with editorial choice'.

He writes: "I am sorry if that is indeed the position and that you seem to be ignoring the suggestion that your policy can only damage what has long been a mutually beneficial relationship between your club and media organisations."

The move by the club has come under widespread criticism and Plymouth's Herald commissioned cartoon drawings of Southampton's match against Plymouth Argyle at the weekend to try to get round the ban.

Leeds United leading Preston North End 4-1 just minutes before half time.  Preston NE pull one back and go into the break 4-2 down.  The second half sees them score 4 unanswered goals to win 6-4.

      Still 0-0.

Yeah mate Jon was at us from the age of 12. He wasn't let go on footballing reasons put it that way. Funnily enough there are 3 players from the same age group of ex players who are playing today. Jon, Lee Peltier and Neil Mellor.

Gary Roberts was let go at 16.

I'll be seeing Gary and John next week and Jon is going to get some abuse for being rinsed by Gary haha.
