Can't decide who to get on the back of my top. Gerrard, torres or cole such a big decision :-\

I'm waiting for new owners then its Cole 10 for me. I usually go for Carragher 23 but this time i'll go for one of the glory boys ;)

I really do like Maxi though!

He's one of the few who have the '-' before their name on .tv
And Plessis is 22 now, and any player under the age of 21 doesn't need to be registered in the 25, so to be honest, i can see him leaving

Great news, yeh, as I think the lad deserves a chance but does this mean we are not buying another striker before the end of the transfer window?

      Why?

Why not retire number 1 in respect for Clemence/Grobbelaar?
why not retire number 2 in respect for Chris Lawler/Phil Neal?
Why not retire number 3 in respect for Byrne/Alan Kennedy?
Why not retire number 4 in respect for Thompson/Nicol?
Why not retire number 5 in respect for Ray Kennedy/Ronnie Whelan?
Why not retire number 6 in respect for Hughes/Hansen?
Why not retire number 8 in respect for Case/Aldridge?
Why not retire number 9 in respect for Rush/Fowler?
Why not retire number 10 in respect for McDermott/Barnes
Why not retire number 11 in respect for Callaghan/Souness

Kenny was a F***ing genius with a football. That's no reason to retire his shirt number at Liverpool, a number that was in fact made famous by people before him. Keegan wore the number 7 and made it famous, that's why there was so much pressure on Kenny to deliver as a number 7. Because losing Keegan was a massive blow to the club, though we knew he was going long before the end of the season we had ample time to pick his replacement - Dalglish.

But it's not just Kenny who has wore the number 7, as mentioned Keegan wore it as did Beardsley and later on McManaman. All who did the shirt justice, probably other than Macca's last year where he was a right c**t and didn't put the effort in for the club.

As I said earlier in this thread and pointed out earlier in this post, we've been blessed with so many greats over the years that every number 1-11 carries the name of a great. It's only because people make so much fuss about the number 7 because Dalglish wore it, that that's one that gets the attention.

But with the likes of Nigel Clough, Vlad Smicer, Harry Kewell and Robbie Keane wearing it over the past 20 years there hasn't been too much to get worked up over "our" number.

The number 7 shirt holds no more pressure than any other number. Yes one of our greatest players wore the number 7, some say he was the greatest ever to wear the Red of Liverpool. But our record goalscorer wore number 9, our record League goalscorer wore number 8, the man who played more times for the club than anybody else wore a handful of numbers, most famously though number 11.

There's pressure wearing any Liverpool shirt, not because of the number on the back or who wore it before you but because of the name on the front - Liverpool Football Club.

You put that shirt on, you put the shirt on of the most successful club in English football. You put on the shirt of the only English team to of won 5 European Cups and 3 UEFA Cups. You put that shirt on and you represent the world's greatest fans.

That's pressure. Not the number you're wearing. But the club you're representing.

And that's why not shirt number should be retired in my eyes.

Excellently written post Billy and a well deserved plus for you.

As for Dani Pacheco getting the number 12 shirt, I, for one am made up, hope we see an awful lot more of this very talented lad.

I'm going to get Pacheco 12 for my young boy and Lewis 9 on the back of mine as that's his name and age as I always do, but not until these owners F**k off.
