Why didnt he play last week then?

Don't know mate. But what I do know is that Hodgson said that moratti told him Inter would not be signing Mascherano or Kuyt. Not seen or heard anything to change that. Mascherano may go to barca if they pay up though!

Also i repeat, if we were in talks to sell him, why have we taken him over there?

It's just not good for my mental health any more watching dirk kuyt (as much as i love him) playing on the right wing with the touch of a careless rapist and the flair of a grape.

I know the feeling, I like the fact he'll run through brick walls for the club, but totally agree, first touch is so bad his second touch is a tackle.

According to dutch media the negotiations are still ongoing.

Just because we are having talks doesn't mean we want to sell him, but we would for the right price in our current situation. Let's be honest, those cu*ts will likely sell anyone if they get offered the right ammount.

Lucas and Poulson? I'd rather rub my eyes on a cheese grater than watch that partnership again.

I dont think we will have much choice

Well if we are in talks with Inter there is no point taking him to turkey because if we play him that will lower his value. Also, we are in talks with barca and mascherano has been left at home.

Personally if the offer was right I would let Dirk go. If we are in talks I would not take him to Turkey. We need focussed players.

Playing Masch in the Europa League won't cup tie him for Barca/Inter in the champions league, I wouldn't have thought, same with Kuyt??

No lowering of value at all. And that's just because Masch is a c**t.

No, it doesn't. The only way it would tie him is if he'd go to a team who also plays in the europa league AND both the teams qualified for the group stage.

Why not try a Diamond formation like this?

      Reina

      Johnson---Agger....Sotis....Auerillo

                     Poulsen

      Kuyt                               Babel

                     Gerrard

                  Pacecho Torres

I might have to take that back. What I said does apply for the europa league, but since you can relegate from the champions league into the europa league after the group stage it would make sense that you would be cup tied, since the rule is there to prevent you from playing against your former club. Looking it up now.

I was skeptical about the cup tie rule, and found this, can anybody confirm or deny?

UEFA has relaxed its rules on players appearing for two teams in one season in the Champions and Europa Leagues.

The executive committee has agreed that a player who appears for a club in any of the preliminary rounds of the Champions League or Europa League can play for another team in the competition proper, so long as his original team is eliminated in the preliminary competition.

"The rules have been relaxed regarding what the English call 'cup-tied' players, that is players who have already played for one team in a competition in a season," said UEFA general secretary Gianni Infantino.

"From next season, if a player's club is eliminated and he signs for a new club by the end of the summer transfer window on September 1 he can play for his new club in either competition.

"If he is not signed by the end of the summer window, he can move in the January window."

The one stipulation that remains is that clubs can add up to three new players in January, only one of whom will be eligible if they have previously played in the qualifying rounds.

The date on the post is 11th August 2010, so does this take effect from next year?

I am completely confused. anybody shed any light on whether we would be able to play Kuyt without getting him cup-tied?

Jesus christ Jovanovich not in the squad and talk off Kuyt not being played because of a potential deal with Inter!! Bare bones sh*t at this stage then!!

I just read the regulations. If Kuyt plays and we qualify then he will be cup tied for Inter, since they qualified for the group stages too, it's irrelevant it's another league. He can be on the substitute bench however without being tied in any way.

To cut it short. If you played in qualifying games for a club who qualified for the group stage of either of the two european competitions, and you're going to a club who qualified too then you're cup tied.

Whether or not Kuyt plays could say alot about his future.

Taking into account all the changes if I have them all correct my team would have to be

      Reina

      Johnson Carra Sotis Kelly

                  Poulsen
              Lucas
      Kuyt                    Babel
               Cole
                     Ngog

I think it pretty much picks itself to be honest.

Whats the reason behind Maxi not being able to play? Or am I just half asleep and missing an obvious reason?

I'm getting worried about this now. Can't help but think any inexperienced players are going to be a little overwhelmed by the Turkish atmosphere.

No idea mate. It's completely unclear to me whether or not Kuyt is going to Inter and that's where it comes down to. Have a feeling he won't play though, think they want to cash in on him.

No obvious reason at all mate, considering he didn't even play against City, it makes it all the more baffling tbh.

Their were rumours we were looking to sell him, and this does nothing to quiten them, and I think we will see in the papers tomorrow fresh rumours circulating that he is going to a second rate spanish club.

IMO Roy has decided that since Kuyt could leave then he doesn't want to risk Maxi - word is he has a slight niggle, the press wont see it that way though.

Definitely, still hard to believe why we are actually in this position with such a weak side (in comparison to how it could be)
