You can see why I picked that summer to get married and go on honeymoon. Was a huge and needed distraction.
Likely the best acquisition by anyone in red that off season really. Holiday as a signing signing bonus as well? Very shrewd business Mr JD.
The trophy cabinet gives your assertion some weight Ian.
If you look at how the Premier League has shifted from a 3-4 team league to a genuine 6-team at least (and that's not counting F***ing Leicester's WTF year) then there is some logical reason to that, being that right when Spurs and City started becoming larger threats we were in the midst of a massive shift in our house with ownership change, the owners giving Kenny a season to try it out again etc. There's an old philosophy that my old man has with sheep farming from our days as graziers - it takes 10x longer to fatten a sheep healthily than the 4-5 days it can take for a sheep to drop in condition due to severe malnourishment. We tumbled down as far as those few seasons were concerned, right at the time City, Spurs etc were gearing up. The journey back to the top takes much longer, especially if trying to do it based on a foundation of being stable rather than just flushing the team full of expensive signings. I have my doubts with some FSG decisions at times, but overall I feel they want to leave us in good shape, whenever they decide to do so. They wouldn't bother with the massive task of Anfield redevelopment if not, and certainly wouldn't turn down that Coutinho money.
Speaking of Coutinho - for all those that think that FSG are in this to rip money from the club and nothing more, how do you justify the Coutinho decision? His value will never be higher than this summer. Next year he'll be a year less on his contract, could possibly seriously injure himself, who knows. Maybe transfers will massively inflate again, but then we'll also be spending more anyway so that will be somewhat negated. As far as selling an asset goes, the profit margin that they could enjoy from PC may never be better. Just a musing on my part is all, not sure why they didn't sell if all they are is a soulless vulture picking at a carcass as some like to believe.
When you say pissing against the wind is that due to the fact that the people I'm in a discussion with will never admit we have a poor defence?
Blind men can see we haven't been good defensively for years. I think you're missing the point of those you're discussing with - as you have a solid habit of doing.
