Your strongest XI - squad players

All I want in this thread is for you to pick the side you want us to go into every game with, in whatever system you want. None of this, if you're picking 4-4-2 then this but if it's 4-3-3 then this or if we're at home to Blackpool then this but away to Chelsea then this. Simply our best XI in your opinion that you'd like to see us go into every game with.

Then take a look at it and ask yourself how many are really good enough to be first team regulars at Liverpool Football Club. If, we're honest, there's gonna be at least four or five in everybody's side. That, for Liverpool Football Club, isn't good enough to have four or five squad players starting week in week out.

Mine would be

GK - Reina

RB - Johnson (though Kelly is probably on a par)
CB - Carra
CB - Agger
LB - Konchesky

RM - Kuyt
CM - Gerrard
CM - Meireles
LM - Maxi

CF - Torres
CF - Ngog

In that side, ideally I wouldn't have Johnson, Carra, Konchesky, Kuyt, Maxi and Ngog in my starting XI. That's more than half the starting XI who I'd rather see warming the bench. That's simply not good enough for this club.

Agree with you on that squad choice. Half sh*te and half 1st team quality. Oh and 100% sh*te manager.

Still think a match fit and confidence back Cole would be better than Kuyt or Babel. He is not that old and was a really great player not so long ago. I'd bet on him even if he is as bad as "say" Torres currently is for 3 or 4 matches.

I think Pacheco isn't ready for whole matches of PL high pressure, but I'd always have him on the bench, as well as Jova (and I'd use Jova to sub a striker, not a winger) and of course Lucas (a little sad to have him out of starting 11 his progress clearly make him desserve to play often, but he is still inferior to Gerrard and Raul imo, especially for a team wanting to play offensive football ; I'd make him start ahead of one of them only when we need a more defensive midfield, say against top 4 away).

Hard to choose for the inside left position, Maxi just gets the nod, having been in slightly better form than our other options.

As a starting XI that's a strong side. The centre backs always changes for me depending who's in form, but i don't think our problem is through the centre of the team anyway. It's always been wide players.

He can play there, can play anywhere along the back line.

Allows for Gerrard and/or Meireles to break from slightly deeper, Cole and Kuyt would be asked to peel wide and link with fullbacks who'd have to bomb on. 4-3-3 with Cole dropping deep and him and Gerrard finding space. Meireles playing the Alonso role.

Disagree. I think he's terrible with the deep back line tactics, but in a higher line I think he and Carragher are competing for the 2nd CB spot.

I dont like the idea of 3 central defenders but it would give a bit offreedom for the two wing backs to get forward.

I don't think we have any widemen, and few players can rip in crosses from out wide consistently, but I do think we have it with Johnson and Aurelio. We're also, when health, rather deep through the middle of the park, both in midfield and defense, so I'd play to those strengths. With 2 Wingbacks giving us width, we wouldn't get caught out with 3 central defenders back.

It would never happen but I think with the strengths of our players it makes some sense.

I would hope we can rectify those problems though this summer.

I like the look of that as well. Personally I'd drop Kuyt, and pop Pacheco or Cole in there in his place, but overall I agree with you that would be close to our best XI.

For me it would be the 4-2-3-1 we were very successful with

That in my opinion is a first 11 good enough to beat most teams and easily get into the top 4 .

Its a shame Hodgson will never play it though
