Suso and Coady promoted to Melwood
      Jan 17, 2011 10:06:56 pm

Suso & Conor Coady promoted to Melwood today by Dalglish. Well deserved. Youth really getting a chance now.

      TonyBarretTimes Tony Barrett

Just popped up on twitter from Tony Barrett a respected Liverpool journalist think this is great news and really shows that Kenny is looking to give our youngsters a chance.

What does being promoted to Melwood mean though I assume that it means they will be training with the first team as they'v already made appearances for the reserves.

Probably a training promotion as when they play for the reserves normally they are called up from the youth academy. Good news if true as both are miles ahead in the academy and need the step up to progress. We are already seeing youth rewarded under Kenny. Good signs for the future. No more the also rans of the Roy era

We really need to see what Dani, Jonjo, Suso and Wilson can do over an extended period of time...I think this news paired with the Wilson story from last week only bodes well for these guys.

yes first bit of positive news heard for ages. hope they go up the learning curve fast. perhaps  john henry had a say in this. if older players can mentor them that would be great as well.

They'll train with the first team and are probably now reserve players much more than youth. So it'll be they've been called up to the youth team instead of the other way round like it was at the start of the season.

Also means, that if Kenny has his way they'll get the odd game here and there, probably more towards the back end of the season when we've already won the League so can afford to try a few new faces out. And if Kenny is still the manager for the start of next year, this is more or less an indication of the fact that they'll be involved in pre-season at the very least.

Conor has represented England at various levels and captained his country to their first ever European U17 Championship in the summer of 2010.

The second year scholar can play at centre back or in central midfield and made his mark on the reserve team at the end of the 2009-10 campaign, having skippered the U18s throughout the season.

A composed figure in possession, Coady is also regarded as a player with great leadership skills and helped the second string to a senior cup double in the summer of 2010.

      Quote
Jesús Fernández Sáez, aka Suso, officially arrived from Cadiz CF in the summer of 2010.

A highly talented Spaniard full of flair and invention, he has made great strides in John McMahon's reserve team and earned rave reviews for his sublime solo goal in a 2-2 draw with Newcastle United.

At the tender age of 16 he appeared as a late substitute in the first-team's pre-season friendly at Borussia Moenchengladbach and was also involved in Jamie Carragher's testimonial against Everton.

On November 19, 2010 he marked his 17th birthday by signing his first professional contract with the Reds and has now set his sights on remaining at Anfield beyond its expiration in 2013.

"I feel very happy. I want to be here a lot of years. I want to go on and play for Liverpool's first team, playing in every game," he said.

"But if I want to have that I have to work harder and do my very best every day, in every training session."

Young guy's like this is exactly what this club needs, what they may lack in guile and experience they will make up for with pure speed and desire. Compared to some of the below LFC standard players on this team I would relish watching the young guns give it a go...at least you know they want to be there and it's not about the money yet.

I reckon we'll see Conor Coady before we see Suso in the first team, I can't remember were I saw it, might of been on an LFC Now, but someone said something a long the lines of 'Conor is a fantastic player, can play in numerous positions and is already physically developed enough to play first team football at League 1/1 level'

To be fair even though the results on the pitch haven't gone our way yet Kenny is certainly bringing some new ( and desperately needed) upheaval to the club, his openness about our youth prospects he's bringing through is certainly refreshing, hope NESV are appreciating these changes, I certainly am.

Made up to hear the young lads getting promoted to Melwood. Just by being in and around the likes of Torres and Gerrard on a day to day basis they will learn and improve at a faster rate than at the Academy. I have not heard or seen much of Coady but from what people have said on here he sounds like a good prospect. Suso for me looks like a cert to make it. I witnessed him play at the mini derby and although it was not a vintage performance you could see how comfortable the young lad is on the ball and the passes in which he was picking out were very clever. Seemed a class above all the other lads to be fair. Definitely a hot prospect considering he has only just turned 17! watch this space...

Great news, good for the lads and our club.

      But,  err..
not I'm a pessimistic but is this move also tell us some insinuate from the owners that no chance to see the like of Luis Suarez come in this window ?

I'm confident in our young prospects but we all know they need time, and it's a bit long time for them to ready, at least not before end of this season. So I hope we can see some real quality come in this month to help improve the situation, or just I'm a bit too pessimist really ?

Well the owners have been very quiet on the money front, but with the news on Babel perhaps something is imminant, here is hopeing
Just removing Babel from the wage bill will make a big difference in terms of recruitment I reckon.

Someday in the not too distant future could see a starting 11 with Torres, Suso, Dani, Kelly..Coady and Suarez....that would be a pretty damn good nucleus for a few seasons.

In our latest column from the club's youth base, Academy director Frank McParland tells us how a lift from Kenny Dalglish resulted in a training session with Steven Gerrard and co for two lucky starlets.
      Related Links

I was at home relaxing on Sunday night when the phone rang.

It was the boss. He told me he'd be down to the Academy on Monday morning at 9.30am sharp and to make sure I had the kettle on!

So, we got everyone together first thing the next day and got them to dress smart for the occasion.

When Kenny arrived we had a quick cup of tea and then he addressed everyone - both Academy staff and players.

He told us that he is focused on spreading the message that this is 'one club' and is very keen for us to get together with the staff from Melwood to actively talk about our young players.

He wants to get down here as much as possible.

He assured the players that there would be big opportunities ahead for them to be involved in first-team training sessions and that some of them will be going away with the first-team for Barclays Premier League games so they can sample the experience of it all.

He mentioned that he was really pleased with the Youth Cup win over Crystal Palace and that the lads had the chance to play at Anfield. We are now using the prozone that the first-team have and will analyse the stats of that performance with it. We have scheduled meetings to discuss this further with Damien Comolli and all of the other fitness people from Melwood.

Everything has been hugely positive and it is great that the Academy is so heavily involved in Kenny's plans.

After that meeting he decided to take Conor Coady and Suso up to Melwood with him to train with the first-team.

He took me and the two boys down to Melwood in his car which was obviously a great moment for them. I watched them train with the likes of Steven Gerrard, Joe Cole and Fabio Aurelio - all the players who weren't involved against Everton.

They both did very well and were a credit to the Academy. I have to say that just watching Gerrard in training was special. Conor and Suso came off the pitch and said that for a 20 minute spell the skipper was unplayable. I was watching and I had to agree with them!

The two lads will now spend the rest of the week there and it is very possible they will go to the game with Wolves and stay at the hotel.

After the session, the boss decided he would drive us back and we watched the U15s train in the afternoon. It was a really good day - but it didn't stop there.

The first-team had the day off on Tuesday and Kenny was at Melwood for various meetings. However, it didn't stop him hot-footing it down to Kirkby to watch an U17s friendly with Shrewsbury.

We had a lot of the scholars who haven't been playing regularly for Rodolfo involved, as well as Jason Banton who we signed recently. He scored and did okay for us which was a positive because we all want to have a good look at what he can offer us.

The fact Kenny took up a place in the dugout alongside Rodolfo was also a nice touch and it will have given all the lads involved a huge lift to have the opportunity to impress the first-team boss.

It's certainly exciting times for us here and great that the boss is bringing us altogether as one.

What a difference a couple of weeks make in football, here we were contemplating just when RH would F**k off and where our next win was coming from or even a draw and the doom and gloom of being a LFC fan, and suicide messages being left to loved ones to laugh at, then all of a sudden, abracadabra, the whole place is f***in buzzin, even tho we still await that elusive win, i think to a man we are all upbeat and thouroughly erect that the King has cometh and saved us from further humiliation, but wait, how good does Suso and Coady feel, they were strutting their respective stuff with the ressies and wondering if they will ever be making it to the next level, but then, BANG!! not only are things dramatically changed when Roy fucks off but the King is coming to see us, BANG!! WE 'RE training with the 1st team, i wonder if their feet have touched the ground since, and of course the rest of the young guns will be thinking, F**k me, it could be me next, what a boost that is, and if anyone thought Kenny is not here for the long haul, think again, he is already planning for not only next season but who knows, Hands up who thinks our future is looking extremely bright, to promote these two lads so early in his tenure speaks volumes IMO, and i'm loving it.

What a boost for everyone, especially the young lads.  I know with Kenny at the helm, bringing through the youth and adding a couple of quality players we will be kicking a**e again.

I can see where you're coming from but we're still only 4 points off of 7th, I'd like to us to at least challenge there first, then play the kids. The Europa League could still be a bedding ground, more technical based too.

We have got far more chance of winning the Europe league than getting 7th. I wouldnt mind a season out of Europe so we have to really concentrate on the league and we dont have the excuse of players being tired we should play they same team for 38 games.

Is Coady's future definitely at centre half? I've seen a few people say he could play midfield, at least defensive midfield but I always saw him playing at the back for the Academy.

No, Pacheco has been named in the last couple of squads and Suso hasn't. Suso is probably 2 or 3 years away from getting regular appearances.
