      Greatest Defender

As you can imagine, there's been so many very good defenders for the reds in the past. It's not the same as picking a goalkeeper. Has there been a schoolboy error in our picking?

Biggest schoolboy error was letting you pick in the first place Kenny

This is a boss little series, and it's hard picking just one defender. When you see the likes of Phil Neal (our most decorated player) not even on the list. Quite surprisingly actually that the four options are all centre halves when you consider Neal, Kennedy (two European Cup winning goals) Nicol (true meaning of versatility) Lawler (the best goalscoring full back in our history) and Byrne (played over 100 minutes with a broken collar bone) were all full backs but not on the list.

Really difficult to pick one there. But I went for Carra ahead of Hansen having been able to watch him play week in week out throughout his career. All great servants to the club though and legends in their own right.

Is this for the whole of the defence or just CB's?  Tough to chose on this one.  I've gone for Alan Hansen from the list.  Boss player and one of my all time favourites.

The Anfield iron Tommy Smith, never asked for or gave any mercy - it was an honour to be at Anfield and watch him do the business.

Alan Hansen just shades it for me, soooooo many good players to pick from.

Hansen was cool, calm and calculating in defence, he never looked harassed or hurried, one of his many assets was to bring the ball out of defence and just run into the opponents half, he always made things easy, a sign of a great player.

The closest player to him now is Daniel Agger, he reminds me so much of Hansen.

Had to pick Alan Hansen, probably the best centre back of all time for me ,good in the air, strong and intelligent, also quite comfortable on the ball at a time when most defenders just hoofed it !
