How to Remove an Iron-on Transfer From ClothesPerhaps you have a T-shirt or sweatshirt that has an iron-on number on it. Suppose that number has changed and you now need to change that number. You can remove an iron-on transfer from clothes using the paper, peel-off or direct method.
Difficulty: Moderately Easy
InstructionsThings You'll Need: * Piece of paper or piece of thin cardboard
* T-shirt with iron-on transfer
* Ironing board
* Iron
* Lint brush
Iron-on-Paper Method 1
Lay a blank piece of paper on an ironing board. The paper should be large enough to cover the iron-on transfer.
2
Lay the piece of clothing on the paper. The iron-on transfer should be face-down on the paper.
3
Iron the back of the article. This may take up to five minutes.
4
Check to see if the transfer is now on the paper.
Peel-Off Method 1
Cover the iron-on transfer with a piece of a paper and reverse the material.
2
Iron the back of the shirt (assuming the transfer is on the chest) for about 90 seconds or until you are sure that the transfer is extremely hot.
3
Reverse the shirt and peel off the paper. The transfer should peel off with it.
Direct Method 1
Wet the iron-on transfer and area around the transfer.
2
Iron directly on the iron-on transfer in circular motions with no paper between. The transfer will begin to melt into little balls.
3
Use a lint brush to pick up the balls of the transfer.
Tips & Warnings *
You may need to run the article of clothing through the wash once or twice to remove any excess glue.
*
A thin piece of cardboard can work in place of a piece of paper.
*
An iron with a Teflon coating works best, but any iron will do.
*
The iron must be extremely hot. The highest setting is recommended for removing an iron-on transfer.
