The England U19 international will now begin a lengthy rehabilitation programme with the club's medical staff at Melwood.

Speaking to Liverpoolfc.tv today, Shelvey said: "I'm a bit down at the moment but I'm just hoping now I can come back stronger.

"I am now going to take a 12 week rehabilitation and hopefully I'll be back soon."

Im guessing thats him done for the season. Given he hsa been coming on for Mereiles recently wouldn't mind seeing the young lad Pacheco getting some game time.

Just read that hes out for 3 months. Get back soon Jonjo. I really see some potential in this guy, hes got that "arrogant confidence" which very few players possess these days at a young age. He is ALWAYS wanting the football, he is eager to take set pieces. And he is determined to succeed.

Well, he's only been getting a bit of match time here and there, won't really affect our progress, but for Jonjo it's terrible news.

He won't get another look in before next season, which means he'll basically be starting from zero trying to break into the first XI.

Don't want to be a doomsayer, but depending on what signings we might make this summer, it could be a very hard fight for him.

We'll certainly see if he has what it takes in that case, he'll need to be mentally very tough.

Gutted for the lad as he was set to make some more appearances over the end of the season, it's obvious Kenny sees the same thing most of us on here do. Shelvey's got the potential be a quality premiership player.

Yeah.. I agree.. This boy does have a "swagger" about him which is a rarity these days in younger players.. Its normally beaten out of them by that age..
