A big hello to all my fellow L.F.C. fans. Here is a little story to warm your hearts about the great people at our great club.

I was in my local pub in Southampton (I moved there from Liverpool 21 years ago) having a pint or two when the landlord came down to do his shift. I was all prepared for our usual banter about his dislike for Liverpool (he strangely thinks Saints are much better) when he came out with “full respect to Kenny and Liverpool football club”. I thought “here we go” thinking here comes the dig.

He then went on to tell me a story of a local who is a nice lad who just found out he had a very aggressive form of cancer and he has less than 2 months to live. His mum phoned up L.F.C. and explained to the lad on the phone how he was a massive Liverpool fan and had never been to Anfield and his one wish was to see his beloved club once before he died. The lad on the other end of the line listened to her story which was just to get some autographs of his favourite players. The lad said to her “can I call you back in 20 minuets please?” 10 minutes later her phone rang and the voice on the other end said in a Scottish accent “Hello this is Kenny Dalglish here can I speak to your son please.

Kenny had taken the time straight away as soon as he heard the news to call her back. He spent the next hour talking to him laughing and joking listening and sharing stories with him. This would have been the best day of his life until King Kenny invited him to Anfield where the lad was given the full works, he was introduced to the players before the game and then with his family was sent up to the directors box where a great big spread was put on for them. At the end he was given half the shop to take away with him. This was the best day ever he said and while telling his story you could see what it meant to him by his eyes welling up and his voice breaking. That should have been it but Kenny then found out that the pub had set up a collection for the ward that is looking after him and the hospice. Kenny gave £250,000 to it out of his own pocket!!! We all know that this is a subject very close to Kenny’s heart with the sad loss of family members to cancer

So I hear you cry what’s the point of this story.

My point is the lad at the other end of the line could have just said sorry we don’t do that which I know a lot of clubs do, he could not have cared. The ethos of Liverpool is no-one is bigger than the club. Liverpool is a family and we care for one another when you join this family. Through out the club everyone is respected and loved. No club understands how important fans are more than L.F.C. as there would be no club with out the fans. The actions by everyone at the club in this instance show what Liverpool think of our great supporters. Now Laurel and Hardy have gone and the old guard are back we are getting back to what made this club so respected and admired throughout the world.

This my friends is why Liverpool will be back on top sooner rather than later.

A great gesture by the club but you can not underestimate the massive gesture from Kenny himself, if you didn't already love the man, then surely you have to now following that act of generosity.

Tells alot about our great club and the great people we have. As it's always been said "Actions speak louder than words" and that was some real act of generosity shown my Kenny and by the club.

Amazing stuff from KK and the club. You wouldnt get it anywhere else. Special club, special fans.

What a story.

Can't find the words to express myself here. Typed about five different responses, but none of them came close to what I was feeling.

Sent a shiver down my spine reading that, in a good way. I don't think it's unusual for a club to give, for example, match tickets to somebody terminally ill but what the Club and Kenny did goes way beyond any gesture I've heard of before now. Amazing stuff.

LFC is a family, All reds from all over the globe together as one YNWA. Kenny is absolute class, the way he handles the press conferences with humility and still keeping our business behind closed doors. 

Everyday I keep on getting prouder and prouder of my club.YNWA!!!

Great story that, the lad and mother must have been so shocked when they heard Kenny on the other end of the line.
 
And as if that wasn't enough the generosity from Kenny with that donation. Great man. 

Also a big shout out to the lad who answered the phone because he could easily have not bothered to call back or to just say no.

Talk about how to make a grown man cry, proper choked.

Our club,supporters and managers are like no other.

We never walk alone.....Never.

Dalglish is in a class of his own. His humanity is unreal as is his lovely wife's. To be fair tho Rafa and Montse were great people also in that regard

Class.

And I hope the little fella survives his battle and comes out the other side stronger.

KK has always been and always will be a gentleman, a great person and a legend.
This just makes me even more proud of my club.

great stuff there from the King and from the club. A real personal touch would surely have given the young lad some bit of a lift.

Kenny is pure class. Genuine legend. There isent a man with a bad word against him.

I'm relatively new to the Liverpool family - I've only been watching soccer/football closely for a few years. When I was deciding on an English club to follow You'll Never Walk Alone clinched my allegiance. I heard the fans at Anfield singing it on YouTube and I was sold. Stories like this, which so beautifully capture the message of that motto, are why I love this club so much.

And Kenny, King Kenny, could we possibly have a better leader than that man? He optimizes what it means to be a Red. Awesome, just awesome.

I honestly got choked up thinking about how that kid must have felt when King Kenny first spoke to him on the phone.  Makes me proud to support our club and the good people who represent it.

Only just noticed this topic. I'm completely overwhelmed, sitting here in tears. Having kids myself it really tugged my heart strings. The effort by Kenny and the Club to help other people is truly astounding. Must have made that young lads day. We truly are a class apart from any other Club on this planet. One massive family.

Hi Guys,

Was wondering if someone could give me some advice. I work for a charity called The Berith Foundation http://www.berithfoundation.co.uk based in Stourbridge, West Midlands that works with inviduals with learning disabilities. As a lot of charities up and down the country we rely heavily on the genrousity of people who do all they can to help those less fortunate then themselves.

At Berith we've been very fortunate that we have had couple (Debbie and Dennis Morrey) who have been very supportive over a number of years, at times they have gone above and beyond that which could be expected of them. An exapmle of their kindness is that they are currently re-decorating one of our properties, giving up their weekends and evenings to help make the place a good living environment. They have shared their holidays with the indivduals that we support.

Later on this year Dennis is running the London marathon in aid of a Lukemia charity. This is in memory of his brother who he lost to the illness a few years ago. He is currently hard in training and fundraising. Dennis's wife Debbie is busy organising a fundraising quiz night at a local pub for later on this month and she has contacted a number of clubs aournd us e.g Wolves, West Brom asking if they would be interested in supporting him, However the response has been poor to say the least. I was wondering if anyone on the forum had contact details for someone at Liverpool who I could get in touch with and try to get some support for Dennis. Even if its something like an autographed picture that we can auction on the quiz night, iam sure Dennis would greatly appreciate it.

Also if I post a link to Dennis's fundraising page would the members of the forum be willing to donate to his cause??

He said that the scout that had discovered Joe Cole had fu**ed up his leg and couldnt afford to go private, Joe Cole was angry he had not heard sooner and paid for the operation (£20,000 according to Curbishley ) out of his own pocket. Top stuff there from Joey

There is an interesting article about Peter Brabrook in this month’s Hammers News. For those younger supporters, Brabrook was one of our best players in the 1960s.

In recent years, Brabrook has had serious problems with his knees. This is a common problem for footballers when they reach later life (I know because I have the same problem myself). He visited the hospital and was told he needed to have “knee replacement surgery”. As people will know there is a long waiting list for this treatment on the NHS. Footballers in the 1960s were not paid well and Brabrook could not afford to go private yet he was now finding it difficult to get around (he works as a part-time scout for the Hammers). His daughter contacted the PFA to ask if they could help. Shortly afterwards Joe Cole phoned Brabrook. He had been told by the PFA about his problem and insisted that he should be allowed to pay for the cost of the operation. The operation was a success and Brabrook is now back on his feet. As Brabrook told the Hammers News: “You hear lots of negative stories about the way young footballers spend their money, but what Joe did for me was incredible.”





Well in Joe, nice to see you still have humility and compassion despite the massive wages you earn.

^^^ Good to hear stories like that. As it's mostly negative stuff that the gutter press like to print, you don't often get to hear the good side of players, they may earn more money in a month than the average bloke does in a year, but it's still heartwarming to hear them do things like this.
