Liverpool have joined bitter local rivals Everton in the race to sign Real Madrid’s Sergio Canales in what is now looking like a two horse race.
Canales, who signed for Real Madrid from La Liga side Racing Santander in 2010, has quickly become one of Europe’s hottest properties and has attracted a lot of attention from a number of clubs including both Liverpool and Everton, who have been linked with the youngster since his Santander days.
Others, like Arsenal, Manchester City, Villarreal and Schalke 04 have also been linked with Canales and in fact, at one time, Arsenal were considered strong favourites to land the player, however it is looking more and more likely that it will be Anfield under Kenny Dalglish or Goodison Park under "The Chosen One" that Canales will end up under.
The 20 year old attacking midfielder, who also plays for the Spanish under 21 squad, and is currently in Denmark representing Spain in the Uefa European Under 21 Championships, no fee has been mentioned, but he won’t come cheap.
