An away goal or two is a must really. These are a decent side. We've struggled against worse, but we've dominated better as well. We'll need to do our homework before Thursday.

I'll be surprised if Carroll starts.

I've got a horrible feeling that this Braga side are no mugs.

An away goal could be important here.

Well they got as far as the last 16, the same stage as us, so they must be doing something right.

They just beat Benfica 2-1 in their own league too and as we know Benfica beat us last season in Portugal 2-1 before we smashed them at home. Not the Richard Keys kind ;)

Their stadum looks amazing, can't wait to see it now.

Braga are a decent side. The Portuguese league is very good, especially near the top. Meireles should have a lot of ideas about this team so perhaps Kenny and Clarke will tap him up a bit.

I'd give Kuyt the nod and Carroll at least a half (whether it is the first or second half). I think our side should focus more on not conceding here and get them home. Feels like a scoring draw.

Keep Carroll on the bench for this one,Give Cole and Ngog a run out hope to see Pacheco get some minutes,Dont know much about Portuguese football, but think we are well capable of taken a win from this one.

They are an OK side, nothing special.

Currently sitting in 6th place, 31 points away from Porto. Behind Benfica, Lisban, Pacos Ferriera and Guimaraes.

The only players I recognise are Quim the one time Portugal keeper, and back at Braga for a second time and Hugo Vianna who was a squad player at Newcastle for 3 years and again for Valencia for 5 years till recently.

I reckon a 1-0 win and then a hammering at Anfield to progress to the QF.

Tight at the back, hit them on the counter.

Clean sheet is the priority and an away goal would be a bonus.

Don't F***ing moan if this one is boring please because that's how we'll play in Europe I feel. Solid away and win it at home.

      Going for a 0-0.

They beat Arsenal 2-0 so are no slouches, on the other hand wasnt it 6-0 to the gooners at the Emirates?

Strongest 11 possible for this one, our only chance of tin this season and a chance to defend it too, no game at the weekend so can afford to go big, dont know F**k all about Braga but i know we are better, i'm going for a 0-1 at least, carroll to come off the bench and score, top the week off nicely, C'mon Redmen.

fvk! I keep forgetting that Suarez is not eligible for Europe.....Euope would be a good way to get Carrol match fit for the PL though, put him in around the 60th minute

This team are no pushovers. Braga have some quality. Easy on the eye. Made a piss take of Arsenal at the back end of last year so they must be taken seriously so...no N'Gog. No but really we need our strongest eleven for this one. We've got no weekend game so no excuses! No Suarez means Kuyt should resume his duties as the striker he is. This is the first major test of our Europa League season so we have to go up at least two levels on our average performances in the competition this season if we are to beat Braga.

Think the away goal is important, would settle for a 1-1 draw, with Kuyt up front. Should finish the job okay in the home leg.

kuyt & cole up front, bring the big man on for last half hour, then unleash him in the 2nd leg.

Score draw will do me here. Defo need an away goal.

Play carroll until he runs out of steam, there is no sure place for him in starting lineup against sunderland. he has to earn it. forget what he has done for Newcastle and his price tag. He has to earn his place in the team since kuyt and suarez partnership is working.

This!  Big Andy is supposed to be completely healed (not completely match fit) so he should be able to start the game, even if he can only make it until half-time.  I think it would be good to get him as many minutes as possible during the next two Europa Lge games to get his fitness and form up.  Also, Braga are not a very big team, so set pieces could be where we can really kill them.  For this reason, I'd like to see the big Greek start as well.  Andy and Sotis will be lethal on corners.
