Time to bring in specialist coaches?
      Apr 05, 2011 07:02:31 pm
After a season of disappointment and frustration ,wouldn't it be an idea to employ coaches in certain areas,Sami Hyppia for defence, and Stevie G hasn't got many top seasons left so midfield coaching? just so frustrating at no progress again ! anyone got thoughts on this?

Are you blaming this season's performance on lack of specialist coaches?

I don't think the coaching is the issue, it's the lack of quality players.

Only 4 people I blame for this season's showing, Hicks & Gillette, Purslow and Roy Hodgson.

A solid well organised defence may not win us all our games but it would stop teams taking silly points away from us ,we need probably 5 players? if we could afford the best players then you still have to organise them so they can play together otherwise it's headless chicken time again ! lots of other sports have this sort of thing and become successful ,what excuse do we have if we buy top players and stll don't win ?

It's interesting that after all the sh*te we've been through as a club recently you think our problem lies with the lack of specialist coaches.

Also, what would specialist coaches offer that our current staff doesn't? Maybe you hadn't noticed, but Kenny had quite a career as a forward, Sammy as a midfielder, and Clarke as a defender.

Yep i did notice Kenny and Sammy ,know nowt about Clarke ,did you remember the team they played in? absolute class all of them and they all played well together ,the team we have today ..30 years on ..is nowhere near that and the type of football played now completely different, what would Kenny have been paid then ? peanuts compared to the wages today but still gave 110 % the players today very rarely give that commitment so what's gonna change it? ..just my opinion ,not trying to influence anyone

Exactly, our current team is nowhere near that class. Now that's where the problem lies, we lack quality. If you look at other teams, they don't have much more commitment than us. Generally teams don't give a 110% anymore these days unless they play a really important game, that's not a Liverpool issue, every top team in modern football has that. Besides, who better to teach players to give a 110% than people who actually gave a 110% themselfs. I'm not saying it's bad to have good coaches in general, there are teams in football that have specialist coaches, here in Holland for instance many clubs have technique coaches. But you can't really say that's our problem when other top teams are doing fine without them. Football is played alot different these days, but I rather not believe that it has changed to the extend that Kenny doesn't understand it anymore, because then he wouldn't be fit to be our manager, let alone be fit to be a forward specialist.

      Head Coach.

I dont mean a Head Coach. I mean a Head (on top of yer neck ) Coach.

So that when we have a game against the Baggies or anyone else we win it.

Heard a quote from a scum player this week.

We never lose a game.....we only run out of time.

I think they may have a Head Coach and his name is not the F word.

Agree with this mate. I've been saying for a while, even during Rafa's time here that too many times there is a lack of a will to win and determination in our squad especially against the so called weaker teams.

I feel that the mind set of many of our players is as big a problem if not bigger than their ability.

Our defense obviously knows how to play when healthy. What was it 4 games in a row without allowing a goal? When Carra, Agger, Johnson, and Kelly were healthy we played great D because it allowed us to run the 5 man backline. Our issue with our defense has been our midfield. Lucas has been the only midfielder who has been decent defending and he hasn't be great at that.
