Rumours circulating that Sunderland have accepted offer for Jordan Henderson. Interesting one, talented player, think he'd do well here, will get a link posted ASAP

Liverpool keen to prise Jordan Henderson from Sunderland

      • 20-year-old valued at £20m by Wearside club
      • Sunderland deny claim they rejected a £13m offer

          Andy Hunter
          guardian.co.uk, Wednesday 1 June 2011 23.01 BST

Liverpool have added Jordan Henderson to their list of midfield targets for the summer as Kenny Dalglish prepares to test Sunderland's resolve to keep the England international at the Stadium of Light.

Henderson had been linked with a move to Manchester United earlier in the season as his impressive form earned a full England debut against France in November and prompted the Sunderland manager, Steve Bruce, to value the 20-year-old at £20m. Now Liverpool are keen on the Sunderland-born talent and with their owner, Fenway Sports Group, allocating a substantial transfer budget to Dalglish, they have the means to prise Henderson away from his boyhood club.

Sunderland have dismissed claims that they had received and rejected a £13m offer from Liverpool for the midfielder, and the Anfield club refused to make any comment on the potential transfer. However Henderson's club are aware of Liverpool's interest and expect that to develop into a firm bid during the close season. The midfielder is in Stuart Pearce's squad for the European Under-21 Championship in Denmark this month, and his future is unlikely to be resolved before that competition is over.

Bruce would be opposed to losing a player he has championed since Henderson established himself in the Sunderland first team two seasons ago and who signed a five-year contract with the club in April 2010. The Sunderland manager is determined to rebuild with "eight or nine" new players this summer and has £18m to spend from the sale of Darren Bent to Aston Villa in January. But a major offer for Henderson would assist his attempted revamp, particularly if the player were receptive to an Anfield move.

Dalglish is keen to add more quality to the Liverpool midfield next season. Though Henderson impressed in central midfield in his first full campaign for Sunderland, he is also comfortable on the right of midfield and his crossing ability would appeal to a manager seeking to improve the supply to Andy Carroll. The Aston Villa pair of Stewart Downing and Ashley Young are also on Dalglish's wanted list, as is Blackpool's Charlie Adam, although he faces competition from Manchester United for Young and a difficult task to prise Downing from Villa Park. Villa are resigned to losing Young this summer but are reluctant to let Downing go too, even though the England international is refusing to extend a contract that has two years remaining and has begun publicly agitating for an exit from the Midlands.

I can only guess it's from twatter.

Not a fan of Henderson, had a good start to the season and then slowly lost his way. For 13 million it may be worth it, has defiantly got potential.

I thought he had a decent season considering the rest of the squad fell apart injured. He did look burnt out at the end of the season though.

This Under-21 tournament is not good news for him, or any potential buyer though, because he won't have much rest at all.

Oh and by the way, the Echo reporter has said that Sunderland haven't accepted a bid and they don't plan on accepting one either.

Seriously threads on the back of Twitter gossip. . .
I know debate is healthy during the summer transfer period, but a line should be drawn somewhere.

A journo from the Sunderland Echo just posted this:

In response to an avalanche of messages - #SAFC have NOT accepted a bid for Jordan Henderson and nor are they going to. The end.

So there can't be a story in the Sunderland Echo about it. Topic locked.

      From The Times
      Tony Barrett

Liverpool are preparing to signal their intention in the transfer market with a £13 million approach for Jordan Henderson, the highly rated Sunderland and England midfield player.

Kenny Dalglish, the Liverpool manager, is determined to overhaul his squad and has identified Henderson as the first piece of the jigsaw as he looks to assemble a team capable of challenging for the title or, at the least, of securing Champions League football.

Henderson, 20, has attracted interest from a host of Barclays Premier League clubs, including Manchester United and Manchester City, but Liverpool have emerged as favourites to sign him.

Sunderland are thought to value Henderson at closer to £20 million and will not let the player leave without a fight, even though Steve Bruce, their manager, concedes that the Wearside club will struggle to keep hold of him.

An box-to-box midfield player, Henderson’s impressive form earned him a first call-up to the England team for the friendly against France last November, when he started in central midfield alongside Steven Gerrard, the Liverpool captain.

He has not played under Fabio Capello since, though, and is with the England Under-21 squad as they prepare for the European Under-21 Championship finals in Denmark.

Sunderland sold Darren Bent, the England forward, to Aston Villa for £18 million rising to a possible £24 million and will hold out for a similar fee for Henderson. “The great thing with Jordan is his father and the lad are level-headed enough to realise that the worst thing that could happen to him would be if he goes and disappears as he might end up not playing for 18 months and is sitting on the bench,” Bruce said.

Speculation emerged yesterday suggesting that Liverpool had made an offer, but sources at Sunderland indicated that this was not the case.

Damien Comolli, the director of football at Anfield has watched Henderson on several occasions and has been impressed. Under the ownership of Fenway Sports Group (FSG), Liverpool are endeavouring to put together a young, energetic squad and Henderson’s athleticism and age means he fits the bill. Having signed Andy Carroll from Newcastle United for a club-record fee of £35 million in January, Dalglish is attempting to put a supply line in place that will bring out the best in the 6ft 3in forward.

      For £13m, I'd say yes.

Think he has bags of potential. Everyone goes on about Rodwell and Wilshere but Henderson is a great prospect.
