      Future Stadiums
      Dec 05, 2010 01:50:55 am
I thought it would be a good idea to talk on stadiums which are about to be built, or future World Cup stadiums for example.

Here in France it's an actual topic because of the EURO 2016. Stadiums will be built in Lyon, Lille, Bordeaux and Nice.
Actual stadiums will be renovated in Paris, Marseille, Saint-Etienne, Lens, Toulouse and Nancy.

Here are pictures to show stadiums as they should be in 2016 :

      Paris

      Marseille

      Saint-Etienne

      Lille

      Bordeaux

      Toulouse
      no pictures yet

      Nancy

      Nice

      Lens

      Lyon

+ very high quality pictures :

The Lyon one looks good, nice and tight to the pitch as well. Can't see any corporate boxes though, we'd never get away with that here!

Majority of them all look exactly the same on the inside.

      Some architects aren't half sh*te.

LFC-LCFC said stadiums are the same on the inside, that's true. The only difference is the outside and the roof. On the Lyon's project the roof seems to be strange, not finished.

Anyway, this project is the most contested of France, mostly by people's associaiton who don't want the stadium to be built near their houses in the city of Décines. The main association, Carton Rouge (Red Card) has some political support. The stadium would not be in Lyon exactly, but in the suburb.

Here is a picture to show that :

At the origin the new stadium should have been finished in 2010. We are at the end of year 2010 and there's no crane, no tractor.. No building permit.

I always find though that the finished product is never as exciting and good looking as the shiny computer generated designs!!

I can understand why they want to move, it looks much sunnier over that side :P

Seriously though, it looks like quite a distance away.

It seems like this is true sometimes, doesn't it? I think these stadiums look pretty sweet. If they do turn out like these pictures show, these teams are going to have a really nice place to play their home games!

It's understandable. The product (here a stadium) has to be good looking in order to please to supporters ans companies that put money in the project.

Something that surprised me about the new stadium in Lyon. As you can see on the picture, there are 3 levels of seats (approximately 65 000 capcity) But the top level should be open only for big matches like Lyon-Marseille, or Saint-Etienne, and the Champions League. So during 17 home league matches the capacity would be about 40 000, the same that the actual Stade de Gerland.

Unfortunately this new stadium is just a "money gap". The project includes shops and offices around.
It would be something very sad to leave Gerland, as Arsenal fans left Highburry

The stadium of Le Mans is about to be finished.
The first game in the MMArena will take place saturday. A capacity of 25 000 for the Ligue 2 team.

      Pictures :

About the stadium of Lyon, the building permit has been deposed the 18th of January. In 3 or 4 days there will be an important decision : if yes or no the future stadium is declared as a "general interest". If yes, things will go faster and the construction could start at the end of 2011.
