      Zarate reps paint different pictures

      Tuesday 30 August, 2011

Mauro Zarate’s future is in the balance after his brother and agent painted different pictures of Lazio and the links with Arsenal.

The striker is on the market after refusing to play in the Europa League play-off, but the club has said it will only sell for his €20m buy-out clause.

There were reports today of negotiations with Arsenal, but his agent claimed otherwise.

“Everything is in stand-by,” Giuseppe Bozzo told lalaziosiamonoi. “Arsenal? No, I still say Lazio.”

There have also been linked with Manchester City and Liverpool, so the Premier League seems to be a likely destination.

However, Zarate’s brother gives a different view of the situation and resumed his long-running row with President Claudio Lotito.

“The problem is Lotito,” said Sergio Zarate. “He is turning down all the offers.”

It is rumoured Lazio would accept a loan if they were paid €4m plus a mandatory option to buy at the end of the season for €16m.

Inter had confirmed their interest in Zarate, but seem to have concluded their transfer strategy with the arrival of Diego Forlan from Atletico Madrid.

      He's Argentinian.

So...your saying you don't know who he is, don't know where he's from, don't know how he plays, but you can make a judgement on it?

I don't want him for 20m. 10m max. He hasn't impressed me since he signed for them.

Sigh. No, I made it quite clear in my post that I had absolutely no idea who the bloke is, never mind where he's from. It was a kind of light hearted reference to Aquilani, Dossens and any other player who has come out of the Italian league recently. Unfortunately for me, I ballsed it up as he's not Italian at all. Unfortunately for the light hearted part of the post, I ballsed it up obviously because I had to explain it.

Just to clarify, I have absolutely no idea who he is. Given the fact he plays in Italy though, I would be reluctant given our recent aquisitions from there to spend big on him.

Lazio have rejected all loan offers for Mauro Zarate, will only sell him for €20M or loan him if there's a forced option to buy.

About 16 million sterling,Dont know much about the lad.Is he worth that kind of money.

Worth a punt if it's just on loan. If he's good then we can get him for around the €16million that they want. If not, who cares?

Wouldn't mind him on loan but don't want to see us splash out 20m for him!

I'd say he could be worth that much money.  If Carrol is worth 35M then Zarate is certainly worth 20M, but that is not saying that it won't be a gamble....

The Good:  He is very talented, amazing with the ball at his feet much like Suarez, has pace to burn, and has instinctive strikers movements.

The Bad:  He is not as prolific of a goalscorer as he probably should be, although he does help create goals for his teammates by opening up space with his movement off the ball (again, much like Suarez).

I think it would be a great bit of business if we could negotiate the mandatory purchase clause to only be activated IF he features in a minimum of 20 games.  That would give Kenny long enough to evaluate him and figure out if he is really worth the extra cash, and if not, we stick him with the reserves for the rest of the season and send him back to Italy the following summer.

He's nippy but not that quick.

My good points about him; very two-footed, comfortable with the ball at his feet and can play anywhere in attack.

Bad; his shooting is inconsistent, his passing is inconsistent, can run in to dead ends a lot, his delivery in to the box isn't good and he can't head a ball.

If it's a loan deal then i'll be happy to take a chance on him but if it's a deal then 12m is the highest i hope we go.

Would be exciting and that guy was on the money about coates a good week or two before anything solid surfaced, was also the first person I saw mention a potential belamy deal. Would be delighted with this, really think we need another quality striker who can add a new dimension to our play, and I think it'll be important for Carrolls development to hav top quality competition

It was originally a Roman salute that was appropriated by the Italian fascist party in the 1920's, in much the same way that the swastika was taken from S.E. asian culture and reversed, by the germans - as we know, the S.E. Asian symbol is for good luck, and due to the inherent stupidity of US troops in Vietnam was cited as a reason for the massacre at My Lai.

Of course the "salute" has VERY different connotations now, and Lazio fans are not known for being shrinking violets.

Should we condemn a player for a moment of madness, particularly if he didn't understand the importance to many of his "salute"? which I understand he may or may not have done...

I seem to remember Di Canio doing the same - then again, he was a proper mad f**ker, but also was Italian rather that from a different continent.

      Just sayin...
