The ipod touch looks very impressive.  Visited the Apple website and you can watch a decent video about what it can do.  I've got a video iPod at the minute and this looks like it will knock the socks off it albeit without the same storage capacity.

      A proper swish gadget.

I'm no expert but it's a combination of a phone, a camera, a walkman, and an internet browser. Best having a look at the website above to find out more mate.

The main advantage for myself with this release is that it will bring the price of the "current" ipod's right down.
I dont need an MP3 player that accesses the internet or takes photo's as my phone does that rather well already, and I really cant justify the price at about $600au then $800au (thats 20 to 25 cartons of grog here)
so I think ill be hunting around for a 30 or 60gb color screen ipod
without a doubt, its a sensational piece of amazing technology, but so is the space shuttle, and ive managed to get by without that also... so far anyhoo

Snap... for me it's a storage issue though. Even the current gen iPods don't have enough storage to fit all the music from my hard drive(s) on, so even though it look sfancy, I won't be getting the new, smaller one. Finding a nice 80gb video around Christmas will be my priority.

Some disinformation being spread in here...

The ipod Touch is NOT a phone.  You are thinking about the iPhone (obviously)

Obviously that's what I thought it was.

What's the point in the ipod Touch then? Surely the iPhone is the same, but with a phone in it as well??

I'm with Venison 86 on this one....

I think the iTouch is the new top end iPod.  Obviously they've just brought a new range out - updated their collection.  Looks smart.

It looks mighty similar towards it.  I'm happy with my 4GB iPod Nano.

Either way, my iwallet is empty and there is nothing wrong with my current ipod to justify an upgrade.

I'm the same! I've got a 20Gb Philips jukey and it does me fine, but I have fancied a video iPod for while now! Best bet must be the 80Gb iPod video! Think me trusty ol' Philip's can be soon classed as a home music system with me iPod coming about with me! ;)

Got a 80Gb classic and I've probably used 35Gb so think I might struggle with this iTouch - but about 33 Gb of that is total sh*te - so who knows?

Personally I would not touch the iPhone, Software update already and problems with un-locking the phone

      http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/7017660.stm

They all look great but are they getting too complicated? and so easy to break! and next year there will be a version that can look through walls, and the next one that can turn water in to wine! That one I may be inerested in!

My iPod has never had a software update since I have had it - although the iTunes program you use on your computer has - so not too sure.

Totally agree.  I bought myself this from the duty free at Gatwick as a birthday present to myself.  I got it for £169 which isn't too bad compared to the high street.

Anyway - it's by far the coolest gadget I own.   I was surfing the forum in Spain on it, the Youtube and iTunes feature is great, and video playback quality is superb.

Seriously people out there - this has to be one of the best presents that can be given or received this Christmas.  Apart from love and warmth obviously...!

On the ipod touch you need to connect via a wireless network - either at home, at your work, or in a hotspot if you are in to that kind of thing.

I just logged on to a couple of unsecured networks while I was in Spain, and obviously in the hotel which had free wireless.

ah right cool, thought you were kinda on about via 3G like mobiles, thats alot better, only have a wireless network at home but thats cool as I run my PC and my PS3 through my tv so I can only use 1 at a time but when I'm running the PS3 I can use the ipod to go online :)

Never had a problem.  I believe the iPhone will enable you to use 3G - unlimited data but it's £35 a month on 02 for 18 month contract plus the £269 for the phone.

Yeah I'm still dying for one of these mate.

iPhone's a little out of the price bracket but one of these does most of the things the iPhone does, without an external speaker.

Or if you're not that arsed about the touch screen, get one of the iPod Classics. Basically the last iPod, with a mega memory and cheaper too! ;)

One of the cons. But you need to be in a wi-fi spot for the net on the Touch I think?

If that's the case then you could probably just use the normal net?

      Cheers fella! ;)

      The beer thing.

      The light sabre.

That lighter one to hold up at concerts. Hmm...

The Remote Music thing is the best app - play EVERYTHING in your itunes wirelessly.

Some thing where you pop bubble wrap.

Some maze game thing.  And some other stuff.

The BBC iPlayer is boss on it.  Great for watching stuff on a Sunday morning when you can't be arsed getting out of bed.

Cheers for those. I'm extra excited about these three things.
