Your best memories of the 70's , or 80's if your young
      Reply #48: Oct 03, 2009 12:27:56 am
share your memories of the past

i love the 70s because everybody was a bit scruffy and nobody cared
We ALL and i mean ALL    had long hair, how could the whole of the uk be cool at once, but we really were

Skateboards, they hit the mainstream and i lived on a hill, it was just like living in California in Huyton in the 70's

Crime was non-existant (to us kids), we played out all day and night and didnt worrry about being nabbed
Our mums and even neighbours sent us to the shops for ciggies for them with a 5p reward
      kids were everywhere
Music was Music, it wasnt manufactured, it was with real instruments by real bands, who really really rocked (except that disco sh*te)
there was only 3 channels on the telly, and we HAD to watch what was on
There was no videos, if you missed something you just said oh well and went to the local field to play instead
we climbed trees without worrying about bloody health and safety and we we bruised our hearts and bruised our knees.
we all got the measles and chicken pox and lived to see the next day
melody music ruled too, and the punks, rockers and mods were real
young culture was local to the uk and not influenced by the usa or crap they call rap.
people wore loads of colours without caring
Everybodies wallpaper and curtains was phycodelic baby
It was so F***ing hot, that you could fry anything on the pavement, and in the summer it NEVER rained.
what are your memories of the 70's or 80's

My memories of 1977 are the best.

Floating around, all warm and that. With all my mates around me.

I was dead good at swimming then, and boy did I prove it?

It was great in my Dad's sack.

      Old Fart Alert!  :f_bluelight:

It used to be Friday, it's five to five and it's CrackerJack!  Win or lose everyone went home with a Crackerjack Pencil.

Tony Blackburn was on Radio 1 on a Saturday morning with 'Junior Choice'.

On the Ball. It was the weekly round-up on Saturday lunchtime ITV for many years until 1985. It was hosted by Brian Moore and later by Ian St John and Jimmy Greaves, who fronted a continuation of the show under the title Saint and Greavsie until 1992.

Who remembers when you could sit down on a Sunday afternoon in the 80's and watch footy on the TV for free?

In junior school at break time we used to get a half pint bottle of milk

Finally for now, my step dad was in the amusement trade, ie fun fairs. We lived in London, where he was manager of Battersea funfair till 1978, then we moved to Rhyl, Noth Wales. There he went into business with the son of Helmut Schreiber of the furniture trade. They constructed a Monorail on Rhyl sea front which was opened by Terry Wogan on 4th June 1980. Unfortunately it lasted no more than a year for various reasons, a bit of a flash in the pan, and an expensive one at that!

I remember all of those.  And Runaround with Mike Read :D

I still can't stand milk because of primary school.  They used to put the crate of bottles directly in the sun in summertime and right next to a hot radiator in the winter.  It was rank <gag>

Rhyl!  It was such a treat to go there and go on the Big Dipper when we were kids.  Looking back though, it was such a crap "roller coaster"  :D

Sherbet lemons always used to stick to the inside of the paper bag

and if your mum wasn't gobbing on your hair she was always producing a screwed up paper tissue from somewhere licking it and wiping your face with it. saying you mucky pup (Sooooooo wrong).

First ever movie I remember seeing

No wonder I hate swimming I was only seven

Oh yeah, sherbet lemons.  They were great!

Your mum wiping your face with a load of spit on a tissue, why?  Why did they do that?  Yuck.  Mums...don't do that!

Think my first film was Bambi, and apparently I cried bucket loads.  My mum had to take me out of the cinema.  But, Jaws.  OMG.  That film had a profound effect on me.  Was it a '77 release or thereabouts?  I still won't go in the sea, apart from a frantic mini splash in the shallows if it's mega hot.  I've conquered the bath though.  I can now get in the bath without having to check Jaws isn't behind me!

Exactly this, my first cinema experience was of Bambi and i cried my ass off. But then again i cried when Jaws got killed. REALLY!!

I'm weird like that, the slightest thing will set me off.

I still cry at Watership Down ffs.

And to think they rated that film 'Universal, suitable for all' it's just mental.

Some of the scenes in that film are brutal as hell.

Chilling out in Sevvy Park. That brings back some memories.

And when the 20 used to go to Speke, had some fun on that bus as a kid. Had even more fun taking the piss outta the Speke Retail Park shops though
