If we offer £200k then that should price Everton out of the equation. :-D
If we offer 200 quid that would be enough to put Everton out of the equation.

Cliftonville striker Rory Donnelly set to finalise move

      Wednesday, 21 December 2011

Cliftonville expect the future of striker Rory Donnelly to be sorted out by Friday with Swansea, Liverpool and Everton all hoping to sign the player.

The Irish League club has accepted an offer of around £100,000 from Swansea while the player also held talks with Liverpool on Tuesday.

Cliftonville chairman Gerard Lawlor said that the club had received offers from "Swansea and two other clubs".

These are understood to be Liverpool and Everton.

"It's now up to Rory and his representative to make the decision about which club he is going to," added Lawlor after Cliftonville's victory over Donegal Celtic on Wednesday night when Donnelly was an unused substitute.

"We expect it to be resolved before Friday."

Arsenal representative Steve Morrow attended Wednesday's Carling Premiership game with a view to seeing Donnelly in action but the striker did not come off the bench.

A scout from Leicester was also present at the match in the hope of seeing Donnelly play.

Liverpool manager Dalglish contacted the the Irish League club on Sunday to register his interest in the prolific 19-year-old.

"We've registered our interest, that's as far as it goes," Dalglish said.

The Belfast club want Donnelly's future to be finalised before Christmas.

Donnelly has already met with Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers and Everton manager "The Chosen One".

Rodgers said on Monday that he was confident of signing the Northern Ireland Under-21 international.

The forward has scored 17 goals this season, several of them spectacular, leading to interest from several clubs.

      Everton outbid Swans for Rory
Chairman insists he is doing the best for Cliftonville

      Last Updated: December 23, 2011 10:55pm

Cliftonville have confirmed that Everton's bid to sign Rory Donnelly is 'considerably higher' than Swansea City's offer for the striker.

Swansea agreed a fee, believed to be in the region of £100,000, for Donnelly last week and the teenager has visited the Premier League club in recent days.

However, Everton and Liverpool are also interested in the 19-year-old and Swansea boss Brendan Rodgers has revealed that Cliftonville have backtracked on their agreement.

The Northern Irish club's chairman Gerard Lawlor says he is protecting his team's interests after accepting the offer from Everton.

Lawlor said in the South Wales Evening Post: "Everton's bid is considerably higher than Swansea's. There is a major difference in the bids. They are miles apart.

"My job is to do the best thing for Cliftonville. It's not all about money, it's a great opportunity for Rory."

Cliftonville manager Tommy Breslin is expecting a transfer to be finalised before the club face Crusaders on Boxing Day.

Breslin said: "Rory said that he was impressed by Swansea and by what Brendan Rodgers had to say.

"He said the facilities were good and that there was a great team spirit with no egos. The Northern Irish link with Brendan probably helped too.

"We expect the deal to be completed. We've got a fixture on Boxing Day and I'm planning for it without Rory.

"It will be a massive step for Rory but he will benefit from the full-time training. It's certainly a big chance for him."

I recall reading somewhere a couple of days ago that the Cliftonville manager said he would not be selected to play today.

Good player, but an absolute dick. Hate the guy. Have mutual friends, met him a few times and he thinks the sun shines out his own backside. Say's at his age he's got more potential than Best. Found it very disrespectful.

Liverpool target Rory Donnelly has chosen to snub Anfield in favour of a move to Swansea.
The Northern Irish youngster had been strongly linked with a switch to Liverpool and Kenny Dalglish was confident of landing him.
But Swansea have stepped in and are about to sign the Cliftonville striker for around £100,000.
Donnelly, 19, has agreed personal terms at the Liberty Stadium and is all set to become a Swansea player in January.
It is something of a coup for manager Brendan Rodgers - he watched Donnelly in the County Antrim Shield back in November and had a bid rejected before finally getting his man.

From my perspective you have a chance to play for Liverpool... Then you play for Liverpool. But that is my view. I can see why he went to Swansea but I think that first team football there won't be as good as training with the likes of Stevie and Suarez every day. So... There are arguments on both sides.

He wouldn't be training with them though. He'd be in the reserves.

Probably taken the right choice. You may get great coaching at Liverpool but some players can disappear at a big club and wreck their career. Think he made the correct decision going to Swansea. He will have more of a look-in.

Liverpool appear to have lost out in the race to sign Rory Donnelly as Swansea close in on the player.

The Swans previously had an offer of around £100,000 accepted for the 19-year-old, but in light of interest from the likes of Liverpool and Everton his club, Cliftonville, sought an increased bid to seal the deal.

Reluctantly, Brendan Rodgers has adhered to these terms and now believes the transfer to be close to completion.

“I think we now have an agreement on both sides in terms of Cliftonville as a club and personal terms with the player, so we hope to complete that fairly soon.” Rodgers explained.

“He will be over here for the game against Tottenham on Saturday. We will look to complete the medical (on Friday) and get that put to bed and the boy can then come over and work on developing his game.

“I will talk more about him once the deal is done but he is coming here without pressure, he is coming from a part-time level.

“He has shone in the early part of the season and there have been other clubs interested, but we will talk more once he signs the papers.”
