The only time we've played on this date since 1990 was a 3-1 defeat to Villa at Anfield in which Jerzy Dudek made his Liverpool debut.

Don't remind me, one grim game and he didn't exactly fill us with confidence with that performance

Never was a great keeper mate but we all know he'll go down as a legend for one particular night and even that night he was a bit shaky.

Got lucky with the double save, the first one is a very good save, second one is pure luck due to Shevchenko being a bit of an egotistical pr**k wanting to hit a netbuster, instead of simply sliding the ball home into opposite corner.

Speaking of netbusters, two Didi rockets helped us beat City 3-2 on this day in 2000.

On this day in 1959, "Sir" Roger Hunt made his Liverpool debut and scored the first of his, still, record 244 League goals.

Can't find a video of the goal but the programme from the game is below. Two things to take from the picture is firstly we're playing Scunthorpe in the old Second Division and secondly the price of the programme is 3p.

4-1 win on this day against Leicester in 2016 was in front of our biggest attendance since 1977 thanks to the increased capacity of Anfield.

On this day in 2001 we played our first ever game in the Champions League proper. Obviously we'd ruled the same competition in it's old guise of the European Cup but under this name, we hosted Boavista and drew one all with Michael Owen cancelling out their very early opener.

We had played a couple of qualifiers against Haka to make it to the group stage as well.

We ended the first group stage unbeaten. Drawing twice with Boavista, both games were one all. Doing the double of Dynamo Keiv and taking four points off Dortmund. We were rewarded with the second group phase where we played Barca, Roma and Galatasaray. The Roma game at Anfield was our only win in that group but also the night Gerard Houllier returned from his heart attack. And it helped us progress to the quarter finals where we played Leverkusen and our European naivety showed with the Didi Hamann and Vladi Smicer sub.

But as a club we certainly improved in the Champions League and within four years of making our debut in the competition, we were winning it.

I was at that Roma game. Great atmosphere and only ramped up with the early penalty. Heskey got the 2nd from memory.

On this day, just 11 eleven years ago, we escaped the drop zone thanks to us getting a one all draw with Sunderland.
