If we are good enough to win both cups we will finish 4th imo. I think one will complement the other naturally if you get it.

      F**k 4th.
Do the double, go on a mega run, finish 3rd.

Glad to see the vast majority are in agreement! After all isn't it the thought of Liverpool winning silverware that gets us up in the morning? As it should be for every team?

Obviously we all want both and it is not out of our reach by a long way yet. When it comes down too it though I would take the two cups every time, been too long since we have seen our club lift silverwear.

Over many years on this site, because of Ownership problems,we have lowered our expectations. years ago, finishing 4th was viewed as failure,as it should be.Rafa's excuse for being sacked was us finishing 7th,but as we all know that was political manoevering by the then corrupt owners, and a gobsh*te Chief Executive.Kenny benefits from the support of more progressive owners, and we supporters will generally give him unswerving loyalty.A cup this year has now to be priority, because in my view,we are not yet ready to pose a serious ECL threat, and even a top 4 place is in doubt.Build for the future, with a serious challenge on all fronts, and put aside historical expectations.

      No contest.

Definitely two cups over Champions League. I know Champions League can be important but I want silverware.

The two cups without a doubt!

Hell, I would even take one domestic cup over finishing in 4th place.

No brainer really - winning a cup or two has to be better than finishing 4th.  Winning is what it is all about - surely players would rather look back on their careers and see:
Honours: FA Cup, League Cup etc than "well he played in the Champions League for 4 seasons"
I still think that being allowed to play in a competition called the Champions League, after finishing 4th and in some cases 20 or so points off first is obscene - I hate the whole concept.

Winning both cups & getting into the top 4 would be a success, however a cup double would do me fine.

I want to win the competitions we're in.. but realistically, win the two cups and finish third or fourth. There's no reason we can't get those points and put pressure on everyone around us, you never know what will happen with the top teams a few are looking shaky like we do. The League cup is there for the taking and the FA cup is in sight and there is also a Champions League spot or two or three up for grabs - I just hope we continue with the momentum. A clean sheet and a few goals against Wolves is exactly what we need because we have a huge run coming up! These huge games starting with Spurs is the real meat of the season before an end that should really see the points required to qualify for Champions League which might give some 'lesser' clubs Europa League football. :)

We are already in for the League cup and the FA cup final is potentially a few games away - our side has a good mix of quality, youth and experience to add third or fourth place to this to cap off a fairytale - sorry, standard - season for King Kenny.. where we should expect the unexpected, or so I've been told..   :scarf:

Rafa was the biggest promoter of the Top 4 quest. Remember his "we don't need to win trophies" quote. And Rafa was God to half the fanbase.

Let's be fair and honest here, (setting aside personal agendas as we do so); Benitez was operating in a hostile environment which meant that Champion's League qualification (and the big money it brought) was keeping the Club, we love, afloat.

Back on topic: No way would I swap two in the hand for one in the bush.  ;D

Even before Moores sold up, the then coach was happy with Top 4. Every week now, we keep on reading how we "must" get Top 4, and how Top 4 is the "ultimate goal". So it still exists among some, even when the environment has changed.

Top 4 is great for boards and bean counters, Trophies are everything to everyone else.

Heard that lad on 606 saying that could not believe my ears .Sorry but this game should not be about the money .My lad is buzzing at the thought of going to Wembley for the first time ,see his face when we left Anfield yesterday say’s it all to me .
This club was built on winning trophies not being also runs with a big bank balance.

Id take one trophy over qualifying for an early August qualifying tie.

Everton finishing 4th hardly had them setting the world on fire did it.

Not forgetting the European Cup and the F.A. Cup, of course.    :confused-smiley-013:

Every week now, we keep on reading how we "must" get Top 4, and how Top 4 is the "ultimate goal". So it still exists among some

It does indeed exist mate - one just has to check back on the match threads to see the heavy duty yapping that goes on, by "some", when we drop points and lose ground in that particular race to see how important it is.  ;)

Listen I'm not saying a C.L. place not important: just that it's not important enough to swap the League & F.A. Cups for... unless, of course, the 'place' comes with the tag 'Champions'.
