Down the years theres been some belter lines thrown out by commentators during Liverpool games. Whilst there are far more live games on the box these days some of todays commenattors cant hold a candle to the lads from the 60's and 70's but theres still been some good lines.

One that straight away comes to mind for me is Barry Davies in the 1977 European cup final v Monchengladbach....

Neal against Knuyp.. (Neal scores penalty).. and with such simplicity the European cup surely is won" this put us 3 1 up. It was old school. Sounded like he was on the moon commentating.

      But what a line

      Keep em coming lads

Andy Gray one is the easy choice, no doubt. I'm also a fan of Martin Tyler announcing Owen's FA Cup winning goal. I think the camerawork adds to it as well (the spinning shot of him surrounded by supporters).

      Liverpool v cska Sofia 1981

Souness scored a hat trick 2nd and 3rd were belters. Commentary was..

"Heighway, 3 players to his right. Hes picked out Souness...WHO PICKS OUT A BEAUTY"  on the 2nd goal as Souey who from the edge of the D hits the top left hand corner of the kop goal

For the hat trick Stevie Heighway crosses from the rightside end line at the Kop end. Ball comes to Souness who unleashes a rasper from the edge of the box...Commentary was...

"Neal, Heighway free to come on to the angled one, AND SOUNESSSS, oh I say, what a way to complete a hat trick, he never saw it (camera on Sofia's keeper). Brilliant

I just love the he didn't have to move to get it line as Smith nonchantly knocks the ball with the outside of his foot five yards to another player.

      Coolness personified.

Nah, plenty of far classy bits of commentary from years gone by that don't include that loudmouthed, obnoxious, bluenose c**t.

It's fair to say I think football commentators aren't as good as they used to be.

Motson in 86 Cup Final as Rush equalised against the sh*te.

Was 6 at the time and used to watch the video of the game then rewind it and play it again and again and again. Although I remember gettin picked up and thrown around a bit a couple of years earlier when we won it 4 times this game is what ensured I was a red.

From the players walking out to the fan watching from the Wembley roof to Brucie refering to the 'Kangaroo Leap' in the post matcher I remember everything from thay game but because of it being my first real LFC memory that bit of commentary is my favourite.

My favourite isn't really a commentary. Just orgasmic noises, followed by some wise words. The orgasmic part's the best  ;)

Rushie's two from the 89 Cup Final and very simplistic, but says it all from Motson.

"Nicol, oh there's Rush in there, Rush......Goal, Ian Rush puts Liverpool back in front."

      And for the second:

"Whelan, McMahon, Barnes, Rush....Goal. 3-2 Liverpool, Ian Rush gets his second"

When Liverpool went through to the Champions League final in 2005 and Clive Tyldsley was the commentator.

"The time has come for Liverpool to play in yet, ANOTHER European Cup Final. Rafa Benitez and his men, have ROLLED back the years"

      Absoloutely brilliant.

      One from the future

"In to the 97th minute here at old trafford, utd attack looking for the winner, Liverpool have dealt comfortably with everything united have thrown at them bar the evra dive which seen the penalty awarded. What a tackle from Gerrard disposessing Rooney, and what a ball 60 yards to pick out Suarez, Suarez around ferdinand, Suarez around carrick what a run, Evra dives in but Suarez has knocked the ball pst him and evaded the lunge, De Gea is off his line..SUAREZZZZZZZZ 2-1,oh I say what a way to win a game. A delightful chip over the keeper from Suarez and the 3 points are Liverpools. Evra holds his head in his hands. Suarez runs to the dugout and celebrates with Kenny. A deserved 3 points here for Liverpool"
