The BBC understands Lee Clark was sacked in 2 min phone call from chairman. Case with League Managers' Assoc for potential unfair dismissal.

      Huddersfield sack Clark
      February 15, 2012

Huddersfield Town have sacked manager Lee Clark and his coaching team, amid rumours that he is about to take over the vacant position at Leeds United.

Huddersfield have only lost three games so far this season in League One and went on a 43-game unbeaten run under Clark that was only ended in November by Charlton.

However, despite this, the 39-year-old former Newcastle United midfielder evidently did not do enough to convince the board that the club would achieve promotion at the end of the season.

A statement on the club's website revealed the sacking and stated: "Huddersfield Town would like to place on record it's thanks to Lee and his coaching staff and wish them all the best for the future. Academy Manager Mark Lillis will take temporary charge of the first team until a new manager is appointed."

"This was a very difficult decision; one not taken lightly or in response to one result. Concerns have been raised over recent weeks," Huddersfield chairman Dean Hoyle said.

"Lee and his coaching staff have put their all into the job over the past three seasons and he has made a huge contribution to the Club. However with 16 matches to go we still have an opportunity to achieve promotion and we have made this change with this in mind."

Clark who quit as first-team coach at Norwich to succeed Stan Ternent at the Galpharm Stadium, led Huddersfield to the League One play-off final in May.

Sad when greed overtakes reasonable thought.
Wonder will he get the Leeds job?

With the LMA, 3 wins in 54 is unsackable. :P

Why sack him if he is on his way/tapped up by another club? Now they won't have to pay compensation..

      Makes no sense.

I'm sure he will get another job, strangest sacking for a while.

If they've sacked him because he is talking to Leeds then they're idiots.

Exactly Racer, if he ends up elsewhere now in the next few days then the chairman is a donut.

Stupid decision, one of the best managers in the lower leagues as far as I'm concerned. His record stands up to anybody else's. Back to back play-offs in his two full seasons there, looked set to do it again this year - possibly even automatic if the two Sheffield clubs slip up. Has his teams playing great football.

Would be a good appointment for Leeds and if he can work his magic, they've still got a chance of a play-off place themselves. Gonna need to turn it round for Leeds though, sh*t result for them last night losing to bottom of the table Coventry.

Won't go down well with the Huddersfield fans though if Clark does join their Yorkshire rivals. Think Wolves could do a lot worse than going after Clark as well but can't see that happening.

Leeds are in the pits. Selling their best players and getting rid of Grayson who, considering his squad talent, was doing a fine job.

      Bates is a dickhead.

Clark would be a decent option on paper.

And on his appointment, there were murmurs not long ago that Warnock, Clark and Bruce were in Bates' mind to take over. This would make sense.

I will always be greatfull to Huddersfield for letting us take a certain William Shankly back in 1959,but it could be a massive mistake in sacking Clark and all of his coaching staff.
