I've said it before, but a professional footballer missing the target from 12 yards is worse than any refereeing mistake.

Speaking of penalty shoot outs in finals. I *think* - statto's please correct me if I am wrong -that we have now won 5 major trophies (84 & 05 Champions League, 01 & 12 league Cup & 06 FA Cup) on penalties .... are we the only team to do this ?

Yep, the other teams in those shoot outs lost..  ;D

Your right though... But Jesus until its written down I can't  believe where the last 11 years have gone between the Birmingham and Cardiff finals have gone..  :o

When Steven Gerrard stepped up I said he was due a miss.  Bugger.

When Charlie Adam stepped up I knew he was going to spoon it.  Bugger.

When Downing stepped up I didn't even watch it.  But well done - you are  useless sack of sh*t but you put that one away well.

And Johnson - I thought it had gone over!

Fair play to the lads who stepped up to be part of the 5 though - seems obvious to me that Bellamy and Suarez didn't fancy it yesterday.

Your right in a sense Rodders mate, to miss the target is almost unforgivable but the pressure is all on the takers and none on the keeper.

Tell you what mate until you just said it then is forgot but when Jonno hit his my head went in my hands.. I was convinced it was going over...

Gerrard - good penalty, great save.

Adam - big fan of the boy and is from my city and supports my Scottish team (Dundee FC) but that was one of the worst pens I've seen in my life! Keep the head up Charlie, it's happened to the very best and it didn't matter anyway.

Kuyt - cool and clinical penalty.

      Downing - very cool.

Johnson - one of the best pens I've seen. Perfect. Very risky as you can hit the bar, but it worked.

Glen Johnson gave a demonstration in the art of putting the ball in the onion bag from 12 yards - step forward LFC's penalty maestro, his team mates should observe and learn.

Charlie has cost us two points at Wigan remember. Dirks has only ever missed one for us and in the Derby...Stevie is still a great pen taker...remember how many Michael Owen used to miss?

Read somewhere that Suarez hurt his groin during extra-time so wasent able for one/up for it.

When Gerrard missed his i honestly thought that was it, he's by far been our best taker this season and thought all the players would end up letting the pressure get to them, wasn't confident about anyone stepping up apart from Kuyt to be honest.

Was shitting myself when it went to penalties.

JD you summed them up perfectly, although I was confident Stevie would score. Damn was a good save but an easy height for the keeper.

With Glen J's pen, I thought the same..buried my head in my hands as I thought it went over.

Got to say a massive thankyou to the Woodwork. Well played!  :D

To bring a bit of fairness to the situation regarding a player missing a penalty, I will give you a quote from someone I greatly admired the late great Emlyn Hughes.Emlyn gave the example of putting a scaffold plank on the floor and everyone would walk across it no problem, now put that same scaffold plank a 100 feet up in the air and there would be very few who would walk across it successsfully. So while we all criticise a player for missing a penalty (myself included)  maybe we should think about that scaffold plank.

Brilliant analogy that I'd not heard before. I know from experience the goal looks much smaller when there are even just 21 other players watching you take a penalty. I can't imagine what it must feel like in front of a full stadium.

I done a crossbar challenge thing at half time the other season at a Dundee game where you had to hit the bar from the 18 yard line.

Had visualised it in my head 100 times in the days before it but when it came to my turn I froze, can hardly remember running up and barely got the ball off the ground as it bounced about 5 times into the empty net and that was in front of around 5000.

A penalty in a cup final in front of 90,000? Some composure to stick them away.

Not just sub standard penalty's, the whole dead ball situation is a farce. We had 19 corners on Sunday. Compared to Cardiff who had Two, one cleared of the line and scored from the other!.

The one bonus of sitting up in the 2nd tier, you could see it was going in all the way.

      Bump.

4 penalties scored out of 10 is shocking.

I don't know how many points it has cost us but I bet it is a few.  I have never been one to celebrate a penalty award like some do, but to have less than a 50% record of putting them away is dismal.
