Youth players getting a chance following cup win?
      Mar 03, 2012 03:50:15 pm
Seeing as we have already qualified for Europe through our League Cup win and looking even less likely to finish in the top 3 do you think we might see more of the youth team players getting a run out as we have nothing to lose ?

It's actually not a bad shout. I assumed we wouldn't see the likes of Sterling, Robinson, Flanno, Suso until next season but it might not be such a bad idsea to blood a few of these kids now that 4th looks such a reach.

I agree! now is the time to see if some of the youth can show that they can cut it, I'm not talking about game changing performances, but a least looking like they fit in, 4th place is all but gone so they won't have the added pressure of having to perform! plus look at last year when we started playing some of the youth, it rejuvenated us!

      get them involved

Might even be as simple as Coates and Shelvey getting regular football.

Think it would be good to see us introduce Shelvey Suso into the 1st team as it will be a big ask to get in top 4 now which i know is still a possability

Hard for him to be out on loan and on the bench today at the same time, don't you think?

      Yes Racer.
We should just play players like Shelvs and Coates we might aswell. Also get some of the younger one the bench just so we know and they know that they are in the picture.
I saw sterling walking with the team yesterday.

Especially when he's a better passer of the ball and his distribution of it is far better than Charlie Adam.

I'd also have Coates in alongside Skrtel.

Yeah, I agree. Adam shouldn't be playing every game and yet Shelvey getting no chances at all. He has proved even in his cameo at Fulham last season he is a clever passer who can cut teams open.

Coates was excellent in the Copa last summer and isn't going to just sit around at Anfield forever. He needs to be given his chance now because I have a feeling after seeing him in the Copa final that the lad could turn out to be a world class centre back if we show confidence in him. We don't want to let him go and see the Gerard Pique situation happening to us.

I agree 100% on this. Let's get them experience. They both have a ton of talent and could be important rotation players for us next season.

I respect Carragher a lot, but it's time to get Coates ready. And while I have no problem with Adam being on the squad at a fairly low price, I think he's a decent backup on a big club, nothing more. Shelvey has the potential to be a starter for us in a few years. Let's speed up his learning.

Too early to say we wont get 4th but looking unlikely. If theres still a massive gap with a few games to go itll defo be time to try some youngsters esp as we're already guaranteed euro football.

I agree. They're both 21 and 22 his year and it's time we give them some playing time.

I think we'll see it in the latter stages of the season. Last couple of games.

It'll only happen when we've got a better idea of where we'll finish in the league.

Latter stages of the season as RK said.

We should still be concentrating on finishing as high up the league as possible.

I don't think we can even dare to contemplate finishing below Roy and WBA so no. We must fight for every point from now until the end of the season. If they are good enough, they should play, if they arent then they shouldn't. I don't want anyone playing just to see because we arnt going to finish top 4. We have to finish as high as possible.

Ill probably be alone here but Id rather add the FA cup to the league cup and finish 10th instead of 5th 6th 7th etc but knowing that some young lads have been blooded and will be ready for a new challenge next season

I,ll second that. We should now be thinking seriously about winning the FA cup and th regular 11 should be kept fit for this. Where we come in the the league is now, because 4th place is gone from us for this year, is irrelavent. Yes we all want to be as high up the league as possible and this would be the case if we only had the Europa league place to fight for but Europa league is in the bag. Give some of the youngsters a go, you never know they might give more than some of the regular 11 are giving at the moment.

      Agree Brian.

Ideally I'd like us to finish as high up the league as possible but if we aren't going to win it is there really much difference finishing 6th or 8th/9th for example especially as you say if we win the FA Cup and then two or three of the young lads get four or five games which could help us next season.

Not saying I'd want, like or be happy with such a league finish but would it really be so bad in the grand scheme of things?

I agree with the likes of Shelvey and Coates getting a run in the side but i think we should just start playing Bellamy and Rodrigues more than they are now, both score goals and create chances.

Agree!  Coates and Shelvey are two very talented young lads, and they deserve to have a run of games as the season wears to a close.  I'd also like to see Sterling and Suso given at least a few cameo appearances.  If nothing else, it will increase their drive and determination to get into the senior team on a regular basis.

Not for me, we must play our strongest team and try and finish as high in the table as possible.

We all know our lack of goals is the problem, few too many times we have been cruising in games where maybe Kenny would hope to bring a youngster on from the bench and give them 15 mins or so experience.

If it is going to be the Europa for us next season, play them then especially in the early rounds.

Regardless of our league position, I do think right now Shelvey and Coates are good enough to start when Gerrard and Agger are injured.

Personally i would not want to play the youth yet, i think we have a great chance of winning the F.A cup and would like to see the same 11 play week in week out in the premier league as it can only help the understanding of the team and help us even more in regards to winning the F.A cup.

I think it is very important that we end the season on the high with a great run of form, and we can make sure this happens by playing our strongest 11 consistently, not to mention the amount of good it will do in developing certain player partnerships, Suarez & Carroll, Enrique & Downing.

I don't care where we finish in the league if we don't get 4th. We should fight for every point but these young lads will be giving 110% if we give them all a go which is more than what we've seen from some of the first team. Honestly if we finish outside the top 4 it doesn't make a difference where we finish this season, we should be going for the FA cup. No one remembers any position in the league unless you come first. Finishing in the top 4 is complimentary and second to winning silverware.

I'm dying to see what our youth can do
