How many of our players will play in the Olympics?
      Apr 25, 2012 10:18:53 pm
Just sat here thinking about which of our players may be representing their respective countries at the Olympics and how that will affect pre season training etc.
I'm not sure about team GB apart from maybe Carroll if he does not travel with England, maybe sterling and jonjo?
      Luis and Coates for Uruguay?
      Maybe Lucas for brazil?

IMO I'm unhappy at our two first choice strikers being away at the Olympics when the rest of the squad training.

      Would welcome your opinions.

You know, it's a legit thread and a good question. This could affect our season as we'll be missing players for a good few weeks at least.

So, staying in that vein of thought, I'd assume that most Liverpool fans would care how the season turns out.

Same with the Euro's squads please...

Liverpool is my only priority and thought.

I'd assume Coates is a definite player and probably Jonjo and Henderson.

Lucas said on Twitter the other day that he wouldn't be playing in the Olympics.

I'm glad about that - let him recover properly and just concentrate on LFC.  :gt-happyup:  :aaliverpool2xt1:

I care and my reasons are.
This season kicked off on the aug 13th, if it's a similar start next season the first games will be played on 11 august.

The Olympic final is august 11th.

Say for the sake of a worse case scenario Gb play Uruguay in the final on the 11th. We could be without Suarez, Carroll, Henderson, Coates, jonjo, sterling, suso. And maybe more I have missed.

Some players I have mentioned are not first team starters but remember each squad has an option of 3 over age players so it could be worse for instance if Spain wanted to take pepe?

Add to this any possible potential signings who could be playing and our European campaign it could hamper the start of our season. I also heard a rumour Bellamy may be one of the over 23 players.

All worse case scenarios of course but that is why I care billythered!

      Look at it logically.
Though players could play in both chances are they won't.
      That gives us (probably)
Gerrard, Johnson, Reina, Enrique, Kuyt. Agger going to the Euros
The GB olympic team is only allowed 3 over age (23) players.
That's probably going to be Beckham. Giggs and Bale
That leaves Carroll in the clear.

of the kids you assume Psycho is going to lean heavily on his U21 squad meaning Henderson Kelly and Shelvey will probably be involved. For the sake of national balance maybe Wilson gets in.

As for the others Lucas has already stated he won't play and Uruguay have 2014 World cup qualifiers on June 9th and September 7th and thus probably won't risk Luis or Coates to something as relatively unimportant as the Olympics.

I'm hoping none of our players go.

It'd be nice for them to be involved no doubt, but I'd rather see them putting in a solid pre-season and gearing up from there.

Any player who is called up but plays in the Euros is excluded, I know that won't become apparent till nearer the time but there ya go.

Personally I'd prefer that none of our lads went on Olympic or national duty, I'm with Stuey on this.

F**k the Olympiad and F**k the FA, F**k em all. Fuckers.

I'd guess Skrtel could do well in the deadlift.
