Hoffenheim wont screw us or Sigurdsson over. They have named their price and I'm sure they will stick to it.

Could we potentially loan Shelvey to Swansea as part of a sweetener for poached Sigurdsson?

It'd be helpful to let him play in a similar system to ours, while giving us goals and assists in midfield instantly.

No chance I want to see Jonjo develop playing at LFC, he is more than able.

Sorry but we haven't done anything of a sort. It'll come down to if he still wants to go to Swansea or not. If he does then fair play to him for being loyal to Swansea but if not then he is open for anybody to bid on. No sign of poaching.

This could potentially be a very very good signing for us.

He was a major stand out and a bargain for the price he is on offer for.

To be honest, I haven't seen him play that much. Is he any good??

Judging by many in the forum, my guess would be that he is good. But we have a history of being exited over every new transfer whether it being small or big.

Just hope we get some solid players whoever we buy. Would hurt to see another player being purchased with a lot of hope and then see him  turn an okay sort of player.

I think his choices are simple... Join the manager you played well for, who knows your game at a much more prestigious club, or, join the club you played well for for with a new manager.

Maybe its Liverpool tinted glasses I'm looking through but i know the choice i would make.

Lucas, Gerrard and Sigurdsson with Aquilani, Diame and Henderson to rotate with them.

Sell Adam and loan Shelvey and Spearing out.

Sorry chats think that would be a terrible move loaning Shelvey out. Hes good enough he needs to play here

Don't know much about him but if he fits into the style of play that we are going for (and I assume he does) then he would probably be a good buy, and may settle at the club easier due to BR.

I just can't see us signing this lad while we already have Shelvey, Hendo, Gerrard, Adam, and even Aquilani if Rodgers wants another creative CM.  I think the only addition we will make at CM this summer will be for another CDM to provide cover/competition with Lucas.

Gylfi in Adam out simples,as for Aquilani not sure yet, we can even offer Cole as a sweetner to, either way we need cover for Lucas, maybe Gerrard can move backwards, he's lost a yard of pace since his injury, so maybe Brendan sees Gerrard in a different role.

I would have agreed with this sentiment if Kenny was still in charge.  However, Aqua seems to fit the playing style that Rodgers employs, and we already own him so why spend 7M on a new player if we don't have to?  I think Rodgers will at least give him a chance to prove himself before making a decision on him.

Personally, I think Adam and Spearo will be out the door and a new CDM will be brought in.  Also, IF Aqua is sold then we will need to replace him, most likely with Sigurdsson.

I personally think Aquilani couldn't be arsed with the Premier league, he wants back home simple as that.

On topic i rate Gylfi and hope we get him.

Again, I would have agreed with this 12 months ago, but I'm not so certain of this anymore.  First Juve and then AC Milan have both turned down the chance to sign him on a permanent basis.  I also have my doubts that any one of Inter, Roma, Lazio, Udinese, or Napoli will want to sign him.  The only options I can see for him to return to Italy would be Fiorentina who may look at him to replace Montolivo, or possibly Parma.

I think Alberto may well have a rethink of what his priorities are this summer.  If he values playing time and wants to have a crack at working his way back into the national side before the next world cup then he may well wish to stay at LFC.  Of course, this would depend on how highly Rodgers rates the lad.  If he likes Aqua and thinks he will be a valuable player for us, then I think Aqua will want to stay and try to revive his career at LFC.  If Rodgers deems him surplus, then I think we will see him shipped off to the highest bidder.

I do think that Rodgers will run the rule over him in preseason, and I believe that if he wants Aqua to stay then he will be a Liverpool player next season.

Mickey Thomas tips Gylfi Sigurdsson for Reds, not Swans

Mickey Thomas has tipped Gylfi Sigurdsson to join Brendan Rodgers at Liverpool rather than complete his proposed permanent move to Swansea.

Rodgers signed Sigurdsson, 22, on loan for the Swans in the 2011-12 season.

But in the wake of Rodgers taking over at Anfield, the Northern Irishman says he would be interested if the midfielder does not sign with Swans.

"Without a doubt, he's going to choose Liverpool," said BBC Wales pundit and former Manchester United star Thomas.

"They're a massive club with massive history, [with] more potential of winning things as well.

"He has to look at it from that point of view.

"And yes, he's done fantastic at Swansea, he's been a great player for them.

"But he's got to look after himself and I think his future will be away from the Liberty Stadium."

Sigurdsson has verbally agreed a club record £6.8m move from Hoffenheim to the Swans, but has yet to sign.

Swansea's agreement for Rodgers to move to Anfield included a clause preventing Liverpool bidding for any Swansea players within 12 months.

The 22-year-old impressed during his spell at the Liberty Stadium and scored seven goals in 17 starts.

Hoffenheim signed Sigurdsson in 2010 for £6.5m from Reading.

Swansea's initial bid, thought to be close to £4m, was rejected by the Bundesliga club, who are keen to recoup the fee they paid for Sigurdsson.

The Welsh club earned £45.9m from television and prize money during their first season in the Premier League, finishing 11th in the table, and so have funds to strengthen the squad.

Sigurdsson said in April he would be happy to stay at the Liberty Stadium beyond the end of the season.

But Swansea chairman Huw Jenkins had also admitted the Welsh club would struggle to keep hold of the midfielder.

Swansea have yet to fill the void created by the departure of Rodgers and some of the backroom staff from the Liberty Stadium.

Thomas believes that will help sway Sigurdsson's thinking.

"I think the player has to look at the future of Swansea City and look at who's going to be manager," said ex-winger Thomas, who also played for Wrexham and Chelsea.

"He does not know that yet. But Brendan Rodgers, who brought him to Swansea... gave him great confidence.

"And I can understand that when he has second thoughts about joining Swansea and maybe going to Liverpool, because Brendan Rodgers [is boss of] a far superior club and a far bigger club, he might want to go to Anfield."

Thomas also hopes Swansea's fans will be forgiving should Sigurdsson end up at Liverpool.

"I think they'll understand that if a bigger club comes in, a player will want to go - for ambitions, of course.

"And looking at Swansea's situation, they have no manager.

It's a very difficult decision that the player has to make, more than anyone.

"But the fans must understand he has got to go somewhere better and there is not better place than Liverpool"

I saw bits and pieces of him anyone want to shed light on what he brings to the club besides his fantastic shooting? Better than Hendo and Shlevey? I fancy them more than him to be honest.

He's big, great shooting (with either foot), high intelligence, good vision and ability to pull the pass off, a set piece specialist, 22 years old and 7 million quid. He's won player of the season with Reading, Hoffenheim and probably Swansea in the past 3 seasons.

Henderson and Shelvey do not come close to him at the same stage of their careers tbh.

Thanks mate, gives me some good insight on him. I can see why some are so anxious about him. Seems like him and Gerrard as a partnership with Lucas behind them giving them defensive cover is a great idea. And for 7M you really can't go wrong.
