      YouTube alternatives
      Feb 16, 2011 05:04:27 pm
Are there any? Or any worth checking out?

I often think of a music video to share then find it's not on YouTube. Also, it's blocked on my works network so I'd like to try some others, see if I can get away with it, ;D

(I am not looking for streaming porn sites.... I already know enough of them)

      Nope

It tries to block all streaming media. I could possibly get around it by going through a proxy site but I don't want to try to be too clever and risk my job over it!

Anyone having problems playing Youtube video's lately? In 720p it wont buffer at all and in 480p it struggles.

I've cleared my cache and still no joy.

It loads up a section of it and then stops. If you just play it and don't let it buffer, it plays as normal I think.

That's exactly how it is, but sometimes it stops and that drives me mad. In 1080p last week it used to load up in no time.

Heard last week that they've changed the format in which way it loads and that it's better now, not sure how true it is tho.

Yeah, same here. Would always play fluently, but lately it stops sometimes and I have to switch resolution sometimes. My connection is great so that's not it, and oddly enough it plays better sometimes when I up the quality.

Same here, sometimes in SD as well, I had a scout around and some say it's an old version of flash causing a conflict because it stays after you update flash player. I've tried to fix it but can't. If you find a solution please update as at the moment if I want to watch anything I have to put up with a stuttering version or download it.

      Fixed mine ;D

In C: (where C is the letter of your hard drive) windows/system32/macromed/flash find the flash .ocx file and delete it.

      Jobs a good un. ;)

Another tip (and how I found the above solution) is to download and install this:

      http://secunia.com/products/consumer/psi/

Nice free little program that constantly checks your installed programs for security and updates.

Secunia scam hits major online retailer.

The online retailer 101CD.com released an urgent security warning to subscribers to it's StreamPower service today following hundreds of complaints from customers who had installed a third party Personal Software Inaspector, recommended by the company in a mass email last month.
The software was intended to ensure that the customers software was up-to-date and able to run the Flash based media streaming service on the 101CD.com website.
A spokesperson for the retailer was forced to issue a apology after an independant security service confirmed that the PSI software contained a particularly harmful virus capable of completely disabling most home computers.

Instructions for removing the PSI virus can be found by following this link:
