Its only coz arsene pulled out isnt't?
      Does it matter?

      Does the fee matter?

You rate the player, want him here and think he can improve us, why concern yourself with the fee?

What is the loan fee? any idea?
heard it is around 5m and we are paying 100k wages too. Hope its not true, ridiculous numbers :(

We paid a £5million signing on fee and £90k wages to Joe Cole. If Sahin plays one season he will play more games than Joe will ever play for us.

Usually the loan fee is taken away from the transfer fee if we decide to buy him anyway..... assuming they are willing to sell him.

conversely .... what Rep says above.

If hez staying after loan period, then it is good business, but withou option to buy, 5m plus wages for a single year is too much? what if he gets injured?

You never know, if you say it enough times, it might come true.

The £5 million fee is bullshit. Its a figure plucked out of thin air by bitter Arsenal fans because he came to us instead of them.

The Times reporting a £2million loan fee + LFC pay 70% of his 120k a week wages. So around 80k.

In other words, a great bit of business for the services of a top, top player.

The problem with your calculation is that you assume footballers all pay the correct amount of tax on their income.

      As if they do!

Historically they could fiddle things.  Not anymore.

The only way is now to have image rights paid to you seperately from you normal salary.

Sahin deal should be wrapped up today. No option for #LFC to buy the player, just a straight loan.

Totally agree, most figures relating to transfers are made up by one source, spread like wildfire and taken as gospel.

When talking about transfer fees we have to remember that most deals involve staggered payments over a few years, this give the purchaser flexibility i.e. when Ferdinand went to Man U for "£28m", that might have been the headline price to be paid over a few years but when Leeds were subsequently in financial meltdown who is to say Man U didn't come back to them and say, we'll give you £10m now to help with your cash flow, but that's all you're getting.

These things happen much more than people think.

That's now the Echo and the Times saying there is no option to buy at the end of the loan period and the BBC and the Mirror saying there is.

Was great for Dortmond 2 seasons ago, Hope delivers the same for LFC even if its a season.

Quality player and i guess dats why Madrid wouldnt want to lose him, probably hoping he would he top notch after a season in England.

      Been unlucky with injuries,.

      All the best Nuri.

That doesn't mean that we won't be able to buy him next summer though.....  It will undoubtedly depend on the contract situation with Alonso, as well as how well Modric fits into their team this season.  If both turn out good for Madrid, they may be willing to let Sahin leave permanently, unless he has a blinder with us this season!!

You know what though, people worried about no option to buy: At the end of his loan, we could still go to Madrid and try to buy Sahin, making the argument that a year has already dwindled down on his contract which we paid for. Plus you never know if he falls in love with the club he might want to make it permanent.

Not saying this will be the case or anything, but it is within the realm of possibility.

Agree with both, but we are then relying on certain factors, so that is obviously going to make it less likely. Let's hope he has a blinding season with us and we can sign him up next Summer.  :)

      True. Other possible positive outcomes:

      1. RM wants Sahin back as a key midfielder. RM agrees to sell Alonso to us.
      2. RM wants Sahin back as a key midfielder. RM agrees to sell one of their other benched talented players to us. Sahin has told them all how wonderful it was to play here.
      3. Sahin tells his former Dortmund teammates how great Liverpool is to play for. That team was/is LOADED with talent. One comes here.
      4. We get in CL or at least make a strong run at it, or win Europa, and players around the world look at us as a giant finally awoken. We attract another great player or two.
      5. Sahin tells his Turkey teammates how great Liverpool is. We snap up one of their best young players.

Lots of good endings to this.  :)
