This was definetely a game of two very different halves, the first half was played at an exciting pace and with stlyle, flair and class. We were very attacking and took our chances well.

The second half was not as eye catching however was what was needed, the team played very professionally and worked hard, getting a goal for their efforts.

Stand out players for me were, Sterling, Shelvey, Lucas & Carragher.

Agree with this. Although it's understandable why we were not as good in the second half, with the introduction of Adam and Spearing we lacked the ability to control the game and there was no penetration.

Only caught the highlights, unfortunately. Made up for Raheem to get a goal. It was a beauty too. And how often does Lucas score?!

It looked like our first half game was very good, high pressing, good passing. Not perfect yet, but a sign of what Brendan wants. Turns out the early Europa qualifier plus the Leverkusen friendly served as a better preseason than our actual preseason.

BR on Lucas "He's terrific from 7 yards with no goalkeeper"!!!! Classic, Kenny would have been proud of that one ;D

I thought we passed the ball reasonably well, but perhaps because we were playing against a team of higher standard never quite as well as we did against Gomel.

The other side of the coin was our defence that never looked rock solid and more clinical finishing from Leverkusen could have seen us struggle.

Enjoyable game, great to see Sami again and another win to boost our moral before the big kick off. Not sure the Carroll goal will have any significance , but I hope it gives Brendan a little pause for thought.
