The thing is it took Swansea several years of management under Roberto Martinez, Paolo Souza and later Brendan Rodgers to get them playing as a well oiled ball retainig football side and for the style of football to pay dividends.

At the end of the day it boils down to how patient we want to be. Do we want to keep sacking managers every season because their first season is a failure? Or, do we want to back them even after a poor first season in the hope their vision for the side will come good in the end?

We've sacked 3 managers in 3 years now and yet we have finished 7th 7th and 8th. Maybe if we ended up finishing 12th 7th and 3rd in the next 3 years under Brendan that would be more beneficial.

      Quote from Christ
No way in the world would the west brom game have finished 3-0 if it had a decent Ref.

full credit to west brom they had home advantage but we could of buried them if we had a striker, or suarez took his easy chances.

i'm not gonna knee jerk after one game where we had dodgy decisions. lets see what happens sunday against the best team in the premiership

Go a goal down on Sunday and it could be another long afternoon.

Saying we played "well" last week, is part of the problem we have here. We didn't play well, and could have been looking at another QPR scoreline, if they took some of the gift chances we offered them. The decisions given were correct, but instead of fighting back, we just threw in the towel. There will be plenty of more severe tests thrown at us than last week, and we have to learn how to deal with them.

Heard Brendan on the radio before and he was talking about the WBA game and said after the sending off we chased the game and lost our train of thought and shape, he went on to say that that will not be happening in a couple of months.

That's the point with the man, he comes across that he KNOWS where we'll be, where we will be going and how we're going to get there.

One thing he definitely doesn't do is knee-jerk, mostly because he knows we're on the absolute first step of the ladder of success.

City were taken all the way to the end by Southahmpton.  United were beaten by Everton.  Arsenal were held by Sunderland.  Spurs were beaten by Newcastle.

Anything can happen on any given day.  We played well in the 1st half and were unlucky to go in 1-0 down..... Gera's strike was otherworldly!!  I thought the red card was a weak call, and it effectively put us out of the game.  We will have other poor games this season, but I believe that performances and results will improve as the season rolls on and the lads get more accustomed to playing in Rodgers system.

Even Alex Mcleish mentioned it looks like we have to sell to buy and when you see how thin we are tonight its going to be a long long season.
With this squad we have little chance to get in the top 4.

Our attacking threat is shocking, we have lost Maxi, Bellamy Kuyt who were all good for a goal. Barring Suarez were exactly is our goal threat. I dread this season if that is not addressed in the next 8 days

Whatever we do in defense we are always going to come under pressure just like last season because we do not take our chances.
Hearts are very poor but we are worse tonight and if you look at the side they are all first team squad players and most of them are not good enough.
We will not progress as a club without huge investment in the team.

Depends mate, I live in a council house and it's got 13 steps but if you live in a mansion it'll be a long climb. ;)

After watching the match tonight I think it'll take Brendan two more summer windows of ins and outs to get the squad he thinks will be what he needs to get us back to where we belong.

I for one am more than prepared to wait.

the problem Brendan has and we now have as a club is that you have players brought in by 3 previous manager and he will want to have his own players eventually.
Its also clear that in the last 3 years since Rafa left we havent had a good outcome to the majority of our purchases and again Brendan will have to sort this out in time but not now.

Definitely. That's one of the massive problems with having 4 managers in 3 years.

The Gaffer thinks different.....Brendan Rodgers believes Liverpool can compete in the Premier League - even without a natural goalscorer.

The Reds have not had a striker who can consistently deliver in front of goal since they sold Fernando Torres to Chelsea in a record £50million deal in January 2011.
Andy Carroll is currently out of favour at Anfield under Rodgers' new system, meaning his two main attacking options are Luis Suarez and Fabio Borini, neither of whom are considered to be purely goalscorers.
But the Liverpool chief insists he is not concerned about a lack of firepower.
"It is no good having a goalscorer scoring 30 goals and no-one else scores - I've always been against that theory," said the Reds boss.
"You are going to need upwards of 70-odd goals to be up around the Champions League [places].
"For me it is a team ethic. Luis Suarez will score goals, Steven Gerrard can score goals, young Fabio Borini will score goals - but we also need goals from our centre-halves.
"If you can get your centre-halves scoring five goals that will always add and then you are looking at your full-backs doing a bit more.
"It is a team responsibility, not just one player. You bring in one striker who can score you goals, which is great, but it's not good for the team if the rest don't score.
"For us it is trying to have players in different areas of the field who can cause a problem.
"But equally important is that at the other end you are not conceding goals.
"I think we have shown, apart from last week (in the 3-0 defeat at West Brom) when the game was broken when we went down to ten men, that we have a good mindset and been strong this year."

luis scored 11 league goals last season so there a lot of "ifs" in his statement . Time will tell but so far even in pre season we havent scored many and last night was an own goal that Borini should have got to so its a big worry for lots of people.

All the Dempsey talk i thought he would of being brought,Dont think he will sell Carroll for a cut price,So i think he will stick with Carroll Suarez and Boroni, and he will probably bring 1-2 kids in for the cup games,With the new winger lad Assaidi think he will have him on the left and Downing on the right with Suarez playing behind Borini or Carroll ??

I know where you are coming from Adryan, We seem to attack and when we get to the opposition box, it is crowded with defenders and midfielders dropping back. When we are under attack, the opposition seem to out number us around our own box and it's a desperate scrabble to get the ball away. We do play good football at times, but it never seems to be as swifty  penetrating as our opponents. All our good work is done in our own half or the middle of the park, we attack too slowly with to many sideways passes and always seem to allow the opposition to get behind the ball. We don't seem to play smooth flowing gracefull footy at pace, it often seems very stacato and even disjointed. I often think the opposition look more threatening in possesion, even when it's the so say lesser teams. Can't think why with some of the individuals we have got but I've been uncomfortable and worried about it for some time. May be it's just me panicking when we give the ball away, but I think it's more than that, we certainly lack consistancy thats for sure.
