Anyone else ever think of the possibility that it was because of his wages he never got to play much. He was a big earner and as such, when we changed ownership, we were always looking to move him on to reduce the wage bill.
If he'd been on £30k a week the chances are high (IMO) that he'd have got a sh*t load more games, wouldn't have been hawked about and would have still had a future here. A bit like Aquilani and others, in fact.
A £90k, a week, "squad" player is an easy target. Three £30k, a week, "squad" players and no-one blinks a eye.
In all honesty mate I don't think we ever had a cat in hells chance of moving Joe on because of his high wages. Now I do not blame Joe for wanting his full wages as that what the club agreed to pay him when he signed for us.Any blame lies directly with the club for being stupid enough to sign the contract.I actually rated Joe very highly when he was at Chelsea, sadly he got off to a bad start at Anfield with that red card and it was all downhill from that point and Joe never really recovered.
